Nobody spoke.
The operations room held the particular stillness of people who had spent days learning not to react too quickly to impossible things, and this was different from everything that had come before it. The woman on the screen wasn't describing something abstract, some distant cosmic force or ancient mythology.
She was describing Sarya.
Kael froze the transmission with a quick motion, then began checking the signal's origin with growing unease.
"There's nothing," he said. "No originating location. It didn't come through satellite. Not through the internet. Not through anything the Nexus has ever used before." He pulled up the timestamp data and went still. "It started before she spoke."
"That's not possible," Elira said.
"None of this has been possible," Kael said quietly.
