Chapter 255 - Chapter 255 Chestnuts 2

"How are they? Do the walnuts taste good now?" Ed brought over some more roasted walnuts and secretly replaced the raw walnut that Carly had smashed.

"Hmm, the walnuts taste pretty good, but they're a bit hard to crack." Carly is quite satisfied with the current taste of the walnuts; they're crisp, fragrant, and not bitter anymore. They're perfect for sitting and drinking tea when you have nothing to do, but she's not happy with the hard shells.

"No way! Carly, isn't this easy to open?" Ed picked up a walnut, tapped it lightly on the table, and it cracked open.

Seeing that Lord Eddard could easily crack it open, Carly was puzzled. Why could everyone else crack it, but she couldn't? Was there something wrong with the walnut? No way! I'll try again.

So Carly picked up another walnut from the table.

"Smack!"

The walnut cracked open with a snap. Carly stared in disbelief at her hands. The walnut that had previously made her hands turn red from the effort to crack open was now so easily broken.

She examined the walnut on the table again. "What a strange walnut."

"Hahaha."

Ed took the chestnut with the cut on it, laughed loudly, and left.

"Sister Adelaide, why does Lord Ed always laugh for no reason?"

Adelaide didn't know how to explain it either; it was just too complicated to explain.

"Who knows? Maybe the walnut is just too strange."

Roasted chestnuts, unlike walnuts, have a more subtle aroma that wafts far and wide.

Adelaide and Carly lost interest in making cuts in the chestnuts and both of them watched Ed roast them.

The chestnuts burst open in the big pot, revealing their yellow kernels, and their enticing aroma made all three of them drool.

"Carly, these chestnuts look delicious! They smell so good!" Adelaide was a little puzzled by Carly's previous comments about the chestnuts.

"Yes, Sister Adelaide, perhaps Lord Ed's method is special, which is why it looks tastier." That was the only explanation Carly could offer; food made with stone might just taste better! Oh, and maybe the cut also played a part.

With expectant looks in their eyes, the first batch of roasted chestnuts was finally ready. They weren't exactly immune to delicious food.

Carly grabbed one while it was still hot, then immediately threw it back into the bowl. Her hands had suffered greatly today; they were already red from clapping, and now they were scalded again.

Ed really wanted to explain it to her, but he knew he couldn't rush things, so he decided against it.

"Wait a while before you eat," he could only offer this simple advice.

A moment later

"Lord Ed, your method of making chestnuts is really good. I have never eaten such delicious chestnuts before."

Carly finally got to eat roasted chestnuts. Ed's chestnuts showed her that chestnuts could be so delicious.

If I took these chestnuts to their place, they'd definitely fight over them. I just wonder how long they'll keep after being prepared this way?

"Can you do it now, Carly?" Actually, roasting chestnuts is a bit tiring, so Ed wanted to hand over the rest of the work to Carly.

Carly was eating a chestnut when she said somewhat indistinctly, "Lord Ed, I don't know how to do it. It's a bit difficult. I need to watch you do it a few more times."

Actually, Carly exaggerated a bit. Roasting chestnuts isn't difficult at all; you just have to keep turning them over, and it gets very hot standing next to the pan.

Carly had seen it all along, and she backed down when faced with a difficult situation.

Given how obvious it is, it would be quite difficult for Ed to trick her.

Ed smiled, didn't say anything more, and picked up a roasted chestnut to eat.

"Hmm, not bad, it tastes familiar."
