Chapter 74 - Chapter 74: Sneaking a glance doesn't count as looking, right?

Are there distance requirements for travel? Of course not, at least that's what Ed thinks. When you're in a good mood, everywhere is beautiful; when you're in a bad mood, everything is an eyesore.

While you're still wondering what to use to record the scenery along your journey, Ed has already arrived at his destination.

Ed knocked on the door, but there seemed to be no response.

"Knock, knock, knock," the knocking continued, but as it continued, the door opened by itself, not because someone opened it.

Ed had intended to leave, but the door opened by itself, and Ed hesitated to go. As if possessed, Ed walked inside.

The haunted house was just like any other day, with little change in its furnishings.

Once inside, Ed, as if possessed, walked straight to the wooden table piled high with parchment. He picked up a roll of parchment at random, and just as he was about to open it to read, something particularly conspicuous in the corner immediately caught his eye.

That was paper he had just made; only he and Adelaide had some of it.

"Could it be that Adelaide gave some to Sophia?" Ed thought to himself. "That must be it."

Ed stared at the paper for a long time. Finally, driven by curiosity, he put down the parchment and picked up the new white paper.

Today, Adelaide came to me with a flushed face. I thought she had some strange illness and told her to lie down on the wooden bed so I could examine her. But instead, she suddenly hugged me tightly. I struggled desperately, but she was surprisingly strong; she didn't seem sick at all. I had no choice but to let her be. Seeing that I stopped struggling, she whispered in my ear, "I'll show you something good." I was shocked! Something good? Could it be something like that cake from last time? And this cake really was something good—it was so delicious! It was the best cake I'd ever eaten.

I wondered how Adelaide made it. I asked her, and Adelaide said she and the lord made it together. She said she could teach me how to make it. She said I only needed to do one thing: whisk the egg whites until they looked like clouds, and she would take care of everything else. I felt Adelaide was being considerate; knowing I didn't know how, she only assigned me simple tasks.

Finally, Adelaide said that this cake was specially saved for me, but I didn't believe her lies. Her round belly was clearly a lie. Ah! I really want to eat that thing called cake again! Last time, Adelaide must have been too full to eat it, so she brought it to me. Humph, she tried to fool me.

But now she has something good to show me, and I'm really looking forward to it! I asked Adelaide to let go of me, and then she took out a stack of white things from her arms that were holding me from behind. She said it was paper. I was puzzled; I couldn't see what this good thing was. Then she made me sit at the wooden table and asked me to write on the white paper.

At this moment, I finally realized it was a good thing. This paper, softer, lighter, and easier to carry than parchment, was indeed a good thing. Nothing could be more fitting for this name, except for that cake. Adelaide said that only she and the lord had this paper. Adelaide is such a good friend, sharing such a good thing with me, although she doesn't write much herself. Adelaide's face was still very red, and I asked her why. Then I saw her face turn even redder. Then Adelaide whispered in my ear about another use for the paper. Then I felt my face getting hot, and it felt very hot to the touch.

...…

I tried it tonight and it really is great.
