There were no chairs in the corridor outside Classroom 3-7 — no benches, no ledge wide enough to rest against, nothing but bare floor and bare wall and the door itself, standing half a pace ajar now, breathing cold air out into the hallway in slow, even pulls, like something asleep. But Lin Yue thought that even if there had been somewhere to sit, none of them would have taken it. Sitting felt, tonight, like the single most dangerous thing a person could do in this hallway. Everyone seemed to understand that without needing to be told.
So they stood instead, loosely gathered a few paces back from the doorway, and for a long moment nobody spoke at all.
