"Frost Carter," he said, getting to his feet. "I'm one of the recruits."
"He visits sometimes," Yasmine added. "He's been helping me with a project."
"Has he?"
Goldwyn approached the bench, and Yasmine stepped aside. Frost noticed that she had clasped her hands behind her back, looking rather like a student waiting for her teacher to discover that she hadn't done her homework.
"Your maintenance work?" Goldwyn asked.
"Finished."
"The replacement inscriptions?"
"Also finished. The completed pieces are on the shelves at the back."
"And the fault in the eastern ventilation unit?"
"Repaired three days ago."
"Good."
Yasmine's shoulders relaxed a little.
Goldwyn picked up the bent support, examined it, then set it beside the motor's exposed shaft. His gaze moved across the remaining components before stopping on the sketch Frost had been holding.
"What is this supposed to be?"
"A motor," Yasmine said. "A new design."
"We have motors."
"This one works differently."
