Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Spatial Change

Feng Moxi eagerly pushed open the small door. The space inside was immense, with rows of shelves neatly stacked with supplies.

'Weren't these the very supplies she had collected earlier?'

There were also many empty shelves. 'They could probably hold a lot more supplies.'

On some shelves were a few sparsely placed items: some seemingly ancient books, a few cyan porcelain vases, and a box of mysterious-looking Jade Tokens.

Only then did Feng Moxi let out a sigh of relief, finally able to relax.

She hadn't collected many supplies, but they were the foundation for her future survival.

Especially in the years after the Apocalypse, global productivity would be almost paralyzed, and all supplies would be incomparably precious. She had been terrified that the supplies she'd worked so hard to gather would vanish into thin air.

This was clearly a large storage warehouse.

There was no time to overthink it. Feng Moxi had to find the seeds. She needed to plant some while she still had time; otherwise, it would be too late once supplies ran out.

While gathering her things, she had noticed there were only a small number of fruit tree seeds, and their packaging was old. She had no idea if they were still viable.

Feng Moxi checked carefully. After rummaging through the shelf where the seeds were stored, she found several packets: apple, grape, and peach. As she searched, she even found a bunch of seeds for cantaloupe, her favorite.

At this point, Feng Moxi didn't care whether they would sprout or not. She picked up the heavy broken sword from the low table in the wooden cabin, dug a dozen or so holes behind it, and planted the seeds.

She then drew a few buckets of water from the river shimmering with immortal energy to water them.

After she finished her work, a fluorescent light suddenly flashed before her eyes, vanishing in an instant. When she focused her gaze, it was gone.

Feng Moxi didn't believe she could have imagined it. She rubbed her eyes, brandished the broken sword in her hand, and shouted sternly, "Who's there? Show yourself! Stop playing tricks."

She immediately began to swing the broken sword around her, forming a seamless, circular shield as her sharp eyes darted everywhere.

Just then, the illusory silhouette of a fluorescent butterfly appeared, its wings shimmering with light as it flickered in and out of view, circling around her.

The butterfly was transparent, and despite its small size, it flew incredibly fast. It circled her completely in the blink of an eye.

Like a streak of light and shadow.

Feng Moxi quickly put away her broken sword, extended her open palm, and said to the butterfly, "Are you a Space Spirit? Did you help me organize my supplies?"

'In the novels she'd read, only something like a Space Spirit would be waiting here.'

The Light and Shadow Butterfly flapped its tiny wings, lightly tapped her palm, and then quickly flew back into the air.

A thin, childish voice entered her mind: "Something like that. You're so silly. Why are you planting all that useless stuff?"

"You don't know what it feels like to be hungry!"

"..."

"Everything I'm doing is for survival!"

Feng Moxi walked slowly to the riverbank with her broken sword. She sat down on a large, smooth stone and carefully began to wash the broken sword in the river water.

The cool river water seemed to soothe her very soul.

She cupped some water in her hands and brought it to her lips. Her mind instantly cleared.

"Can I drink this water?"

"Of course you ca—"

The Light and Shadow Butterfly had clearly never encountered a Space Master like her and was almost thrown off track. After a moment of silence, it continued:

"You don't need to plant things yourself. Now that you're practicing Cultivation, you have complete control over this space. And to use the world's number one Divine Sword, Broken Soul, as an Immortal Hoe... that's a sacrilegious waste, you know?"

The voice was so tiny and delicate that its lecturing tone struck her as comical.

'The problem was, she hadn't seen a hoe or anything like it in the storeroom.'

"Then how should I plant them?"

Suddenly, a streak of light flew through the air, and a small Jade Token landed in Feng Moxi's hand. Compared to the Jade Token, the Light and Shadow Butterfly seemed even more translucent.

As if it might vanish with a single breath.

"Are you a Butterfly Fairy?"

"..., no." Suddenly, the Light and Shadow Butterfly solidified. A small butterfly-shaped flower landed on the Jade Token in her palm, a faint blue light glowing from its pistil.

Then, the flower transformed back into the Light and Shadow Butterfly and flew quickly through the air. This maneuver stunned Feng Moxi. "Are you an Herb Elf?"

"Something like that."

'Another ambiguous answer,' Feng Moxi thought with exasperation. 'This spirit is terrible at conversation.'

Feng Moxi paid it no more mind. She raised the Jade Token and probed it with her Divine Sense. She saw that it contained a Cultivation Technique for training Divine Sense, called 'Refining God'.

'Divine Sense? That must be spiritual power!'

It described in detail how training one's Divine Sense could allow one to retrieve objects from a distance. Feng Moxi's heart skipped a beat. Spiritual Abilities in the Apocalypse were apparently extremely powerful, capable of controlling any creature of the Same Rank or a low-level.

If she trained her Divine Sense in coordination with her Cultivation Technique and reached Level 0, she would be able to detect any disturbance within a ten-meter radius.

Reaching Level 1 would allow her to sense any activity within a fifty-meter radius. This was a godsend in the crisis-ridden Apocalypse.

"Thank you. What's your name?"

"My name is Little Shadow."

'Just like its name, fast as light and shadow,' Feng Moxi thought. 'I wonder if it has any combat ability.'

"If you learn this Cultivation Technique, you'll be able to use your Divine Sense to plant whatever you want. In fact, you already possessed a certain amount of spiritual power the moment you acquired this space."

"Oh? What do you mean?"

"You're so dense. Otherwise, how could you have entered and controlled the space with your spirit body?"

'So that's how it is.' Feng Moxi had a sudden realization. She began to practice some of the mental concepts as she walked.

She slowly walked into the wooden cabin, picked up the Jade Scroll from the table, and discovered it was the 'Absolute Kill' Cultivation Technique.

It was truly incredible.

"But why is this sword broken in half?"

Little Shadow, who had been flitting up and down around Feng Moxi, suddenly froze mid-air upon hearing her question.

Its eyes, black gems the size of a pinprick, suddenly clouded over with confusion.

After pondering for a long while, it finally murmured, "I... I don't seem to remember. And yet, it feels like it was so, so long ago."

"I only remember a world-destroying explosion, and then I passed out."

"When I woke up, you were here, controlling the space. What on earth could it have been?"

Little Shadow kept muttering to itself, shaking its little head back and forth, and then suddenly vanished.

Feng Moxi shook her head. 'I was just asking casually; I didn't actually need an answer!'

'We were just chatting. Why did it run off?'

She hadn't expected the little one to take it so seriously. The only thing she could be certain of was that this space was the relic of some ancient Cultivator.

She had been inside for quite some time. After withdrawing her spirit body, she found that the sky outside was still pitch black, and Luo Yunxi was now deep in a state of Cultivation.
