The staircase was on the east side of the villa. Cecilia Sutton's room was right at the top.
Annelise Valentine ascended the steps one by one. Her hand had just reached the banister, and she was about to round the landing when a familiar voice called out from behind her.
"Valentine."
Annelise Valentine froze, her feet rooted to the spot.
She slowly turned, her gaze following the sound. There, in the light at the bottom of the staircase, stood Jett Westgate. She had no idea when he'd followed her.
'How could he be here?' She was completely bewildered.
It was as if someone had hit rewind in her mind, rapidly spooling back to this very night in her past life—her going upstairs, entering Cecilia Sutton's room, hearing those words, hearing Selene Hawthorne's name, and then helping Cecilia Sutton escape.
Jett Westgate hadn't appeared at all during that entire sequence of events.
Annelise Valentine's fingertips tightened on the banister. 'What's happening?'
