"Everything about you is an eyesore! You're an eyesore sitting next to me! Your breathing is an eyesore! Your talking is an eyesore! The way you look when you're not talking is an eyesore, too! You, as a person, from top to bottom, inside and out—you're an eyesore. Are you satisfied with that answer?"
After listening to her long string of accusations, Jett Westgate didn't get angry or even frown. Instead, he just smiled gently.
"Is it that serious?" His voice was low, as if he were trying to soothe a small, flustered child. "From top to bottom, inside and out, a complete eyesore?"
He leaned over and pulled something out of the side storage compartment—a black silk eye mask, part of the in-flight overnight kit.
He dangled the eye mask from his fingers, slowly swaying it in front of Annelise Valentine's face.
"Since everything is such an eyesore, if you cover your eyes, you won't be able to see it."
