Dawn was just breaking, but Annelise Valentine hadn't yet had a chance to recover from her sleepless night when a knock came at her door.
The butler announced that Aidan Westgate and Evelyn Sutton had arrived.
She quickly washed her face, trying to splash away the dark circles under her eyes with cold water. She then changed into some loungewear before hurrying downstairs.
In the living room, they were already playing with Pippa.
"Uncle, Auntie, you're here," Annelise called out.
The pair were having a wonderful time playing with Pippa and only realized Annelise had arrived when they heard her speak. "Annelise."
Evelyn Sutton immediately stood up, her gaze sweeping over Annelise's face. "Oh dear, you look so haggard."
"Did you not sleep well last night? Or did that boy Jett bully you? You tell me, and I'll deal with him for you!"
Aidan Westgate stood up as well. Though he didn't speak, his eyes held a hint of inquiry and concern.
