"Let me heat up some water first."
After neatly folding Lin Zhengran's discarded jacket and setting it aside, Xiao Heqing skillfully filled the kettle with cold water. Looking every bit the perfect housewife, she placed it on the small home water heater and pressed the heat button.
The cold water slowly began to warm, forming tiny bubbles.
Noticing that Lin Zhengran was helping to open the packaging of the self-heating hot pot, Xiao Heqing carefully took a seat beside him, pressing closely against his side.
"Let me do it. You can just rest. I can handle these little things," she said in a soft, sweet voice.
"It's just opening a package. I can do it while I'm at it," he replied.
Seeing her cast hesitant glances at him—clearly wanting to ask something but not quite daring to—Lin Zhengran asked, "Thinking about what happened with Lili earlier?"
