The next day, at the Town Lord's manor.
Xiao Jing and his core retinue of trusted officials had gathered to discuss sending troops as reinforcements.
"I have summoned you all here today for one reason and one reason only: to reinforce Shanwu City!"
Xiao Jing was the first to speak, breaking the silence.
At his words, the faces of the military officers lit up with excitement. They could hardly contain themselves.
Word had reached them of Xiao Jing's generous rewards in Arid Mountain Village yesterday. Killing enemies earned merit, which led to promotions and grants of land. For a military officer, the appeal of such a system was unimaginable.
It wasn't just the officers. As soon as the news reached Da Liu Town last night, many of their own soldiers had come running to ask when the next battle would be.
