"Fire! Quick! Fire your arrows!" Knight Vid shouted, using his Knight's Sword to beat back a batch of Beastman Soldiers who were about to climb over. He turned and ordered the Soldiers behind him.
If you had to name who had suffered the most grievous losses lately, it would have to be Knight Vid.
The reason was simple: Knight Vid's territory was the closest to Bai Ma Ferry. When the Beastmen first appeared, they hadn't yet reached his domain, and Vid was content to wait and see how the situation developed.
You couldn't blame Vid for being selfish. Sri County was newly established, and its County Governor, Viscount Jeffrey, was not much of an organizer.
The assault from the routed Beastman army had been too sudden, and no one was prepared. Under such circumstances, the most sensible course of action was to do exactly as Knight Vid had done: stay put and defend one's own position.
