Seraphina Quinn said with a faint smile, "I'm surprised Fairchild even remembers my birthday."
The sarcasm in her words was palpable.
Damian Fairchild frowned, a flicker of displeasure crossing his face. "What? Have I never celebrated your birthday before? You sound incredibly resentful."
"That's not it."
"When we first got together, you were at your poorest."
"Back then, you were so poor that we had to live in a basement apartment."
"Even though you were poor, you'd still celebrate it. You'd fry me a sunny-side-up egg, cook a bowl of longevity noodles, and get a discounted cake..."
"In any case, it was nothing compared to the elaborate efforts you put in for other women."
"Then you got rich and decided to crush me when I was at my lowest."
"So, shouldn't I be resentful?"
Damian Fairchild watched Seraphina Quinn with an inscrutable gaze for a moment before finally turning to leave.
He did not, however, take the birthday gift with him.
