"Protect! Shield the ship with whatever you can!"
Dron's command thundered across the deck.
The soldiers moved immediately, grabbing whatever they could use for protection as another volley of arrows sailed toward the ship.
The betas and male humans did what they could to help but it was clear that even with the small training they had it was going to be a hard fight.
Several arrows struck the railing, while others embedded themselves in the wooden crates scattered across the deck.
One arrow struck a soldier in the shoulder. The alpha cried out and stumbled backward. Dron grabbed hold of him before he could fall.
"Get below deck." He ordered.
The soldier nodded and hurried toward the stairs, clutching the shaft protruding from his shoulder.
Dron looked toward the approaching Uspanx vessel.
It was moving much faster than he'd anticipated.
