Chapter 17 - Cathedral Of The Damned II

Adonis POV

In the eighteen years of my existence I've never been put through this this... Torture.

I matched the piting gaze of sickening worm man. What can of man.. No entity is this.

I replayed the question several times in my head, the more I wondered in anger the more more question seemed to have a very obvious answer.

Since I entered this dimension, I didn't have any right. I saw an entity with my face and thought familiarity will be the next thing, that I'll get a kind guide that will explain everything single thing that doesn't make fucking sense.

Why do I always expect kindness?

Why do I always hope for goodness?

Why do I hope for such a vague concept when in my whole existence kindness is the only thing I've never experienced.

Why should Zero care for me? Why expect kindness from a man who's friend died because of you.

If I hadn't experienced any form of kindness throughout my existence, why expect one now.

At least the pain I felt subsided a bit, I turned away from the god's gaze towards the grand column of baleful energy that seemed to stretch endlessly in the astra. There was a strange beauty in it, that I couldn't explain, like something was drawing me towards into. The reddish-black miasma filled the surrounding floor of energy column.

I followed the unexplainable feeling towards the pillar of energy.

The miasma that seemed to be just two meters away always seemed so far for some reason. The more I stepped towards it the more it seemed to be getting futher away from it, but it didn't move, I was sure of it.

"A silver of infinity exist in every manifestation.

Let me help you." I almost rejected the demons offer on the spot, unfortunately curiosity has already consumed me. I couldn't explain the feeling in my chest at the moment. But I've felt it before in Evore at the incident. Something was leading me. No someone was leading me for such a time as this. I felt a sort of metaphysical thread around my being with the devil on my shoulders offering to lead me to what my soul calls destiny.

But the question remains the same..

Why would the devil want anything good for you?

Did you ever appear blessed?

Whose to tell destiny won't kill you?

Back in Evore did the voices of the cult favor you?

No.

Did the prophecies of the fates clear a path?

The answer remains the same-No.

So why on earth would I believe this single act of following a mere feeling in my heart.

If Calypso was here, she definitely call me a fool, and she would probably be right.

I don't believe in Fate, but let's see where it leads.

Zero rested his right hand on my shoulder, like the feeling earlier was but a mirage. I felt the space around me rest a bit.

I walked towards my Fate...

The thought process made me chuckle a little as I walked towards the column of energy. The overwhelming miasma at the base left a clear path towards the column.

I looked towards my both sides one at a time, the sea of reddish-black miasma, split like chord cut out.

Then towards my stupid gamble, the circumference the column occupied made it throughly the smallest if compared to the other columns I saw at Sodom's skyline. Especially the one at Nadir, but standing in front of this one right now...

The only feeling I truly felt was grand awe.

"For something so loathsome, I wonder why you look at it, in so much awe." Zero bent towards my ear level to whisper unnecessarily.

The devil will always talk, yet the devil was byzantine.

Yet was the devil meant to be understood by mortals?

I didn't have answer to that, at least he followed. Now standing the epicenter of the manifestation, the grandness truly sunk in. It wasn't just stagnant energy, it was alive. It moved although conformed to the shape, echoes of highly compressed fumes of a furnace encompassed the epicenter.

I know walking into a column of energy seems incredibly foolish. I mean what if I get vaporized or worse, unfortunately I was already dead if what my persecutor said was true. What's the worse that can truly happen?

I'm crazy fuck..

Just 10 feet away from the column, the pulsing feeling directing me towards the manifestation almost consumed me. I took a step forward hesitantly and looked back at Zero-The devil-My devil. He looked at me with a smile I didn't quite reach my eye at all.

'Bitch. Why the fuck is he giving me that encouraging look.'

I remembered his words earlier in the desert.

'Don't look back!!'

Bullshit..

Sometimes you wonder whether or not he can't piss you off more than he already done, but keeps defying every odds.

I mockingly chuckled.

Not at Zero, no at myself. I never had control in this dimension, everything I went through could be blamed on something or someone... But this is my decision and mine alone. Like those moments you look back and know this is where the fuck up began.

But like always I'm going to take that leap of faith.

The leap of faith!

Then I jumped.

*ERROR*ERROR*

The bright red words showed up in my field of vision once again as the feeling of suction overwhelmed my hands already in the column of energy.

I looked once again at the grand pillar of energy again...

Grand? Awe?

Two feeling that disappeared immediately I turned towards the column.

I barely had time to make out the obscene image in front of me at the moment. I couldn't only watch as the bloody worms that secreted mucus swallowed me like a wave from the fleshy pillar. Within the miniscule time I had to spare I looked back at Zero.

Or what was Zero.

Standing at my back was not a man.

Or the god I confused with him earlier.

Neither was it the devil I later accepted.

The silver worm man stared intensely at me, with the distance separating us insignificant.

His face resembled the monster at the oasis, he looked at me with his white Yamato make-up covering face that didn't match his body made out of worms. His nail-like teeth where showed in full display, whether because he smiled widely or he didn't have a mouth I couldn't tell yet.

His eyes that looked like a puppet master stuffed an elephants eyeballs in a human eye socket continued staring at me. It started laughing with the second, that grating laughter. Resembling that of a clown, he laughed so hard his awfully large eyeballs continued displacing from one another.

Time...

How did a second feel so goddamn long. I wanted the worms to just suck me in fast enough that to watch this in such a close proximity.

Only my head was left left outside to witness the aberrant play. The worm man still held on to my shoulder with his left hand while the rest of his body was left outside hanging on the flesh pillar that continued trying to suck me in.

He continued the sordid laughter in my face with the incredibly sluggish time.

Or was it Space?

No time for bullshit thoughts right now tho.

Zero continued to laugh until his eyes swelled up like they truly wanted to burst. And even when they finally burst and blood grime fell on his face, he still continued to laugh.

The writhing flesh and worms elevated my being and the monster ascended with me up the flesh pillar.

For that infinitely stretched second, something shifted in my head. If I was made of flesh at the moment, blood would have filled my head. I looked away from the laughing abomination and looked towards the city.

The city of sin!!!

Truly descript.

All of a sudden mouths appeared appeared on the surface of the flesh pillar. On every flesh pillar, a mouth that seemed to be owned by a Nordic woman appeared around every flesh pillar in Sodom.

The abomination was still laughing his grating laughter. Still laughing nonstop.

I looked the north and saw hopelessness in form of a desert, I looked to the west I saw my burial ground, I looked to the east and saw my executioner and to the south..

I couldn't turn towards the south..

Turning back towards the laughing monster that had blood dripping from his empty eye sockets.

I suddenly felt twitches within the flesh pillar.
