Chapter 2 - Ready, Set, Dream! (2)

With absolute shock, Juno stared at his Runes. He had a lot of questions in his head and a lot of thoughts to shift through, but those would have to wait. Before he tried to make any deductions, he needed to see his Attributes. Focusing on each one, he saw their descriptions.

[Dream's Spawn] Attribute Description: "Having come from a different world, you are a third party for the current realms. As an outsider, each realm wants to have you on its side, giving you great affinity for each one."

[Flame of Divinity] Attribute Description: "Your soul is aflame with the light of divinity."

[Anunnaki] Attribute Description: "Nephilim were always said to be the most beautiful and the most harrowing creatures of them all. Those statements were wrong, as you are now in existence. Divine and Nightmarish. Blessed by all and Cursed by all, your body, mind, and soul are much different from anyone else, granting you abilities unlike anyone else."

[Malicious] Attribute Description: "You are inclined to evil, and evil is inclined to you."

[The War] Attribute Description: "You have taken the lineage of War God, with her none the wiser. Hide it well, or else…"

'Thats… What the hell? Isn't this kinda broken? Why do I have so many Attributes?'

Juno quickly recognized [Anunakki] as the reason he was in the body of a Nightmare Creature instead of a human. If he understood correctly, his soul itself was part Nightmare Creature—however that was possible.

I'll get to the Malicious Attribute later, since there are other pressing issues. From what I remember, Nephilim were described as beings of Divinity and Profanity, meaning they were somehow part god and part… part what..? Huh'

Slightly confused, Juno shook his head and stared into space for a moment. Then he continued sorting through how much of the novel he remembered.

'About chapter 2800… that's amazing! Ugh, why did I have to skip a couple of chapters? How annoying, since I now definitely have some knowledge missing. Well… eh, if I skipped it then it's probably not important.'

Nodding sagely to himself, Juno started to think about his situation.

'I'm in the body of a Nightmare Creature—a small snake—and I'm in my First Nightmare. This has to be the first, since I'm still an Aspirant. It's weird I didn't hear the Spell greet me, but whatever.

I seem to be in a human kingdom as it's in its early stages. Or maybe the end of it..? Something about the kingdom is tied to Heart God, but he isn't responding to their prayers.Heh… poor fools. The gods are dead. Well, not that it matters…

Heart God was the God of Souls, emotion, memory, hunger, and growth, as well as the most elusive of the Gods. That… doesn't tell me much.'

A loud burst of noise caught Juno's attention, and as he looked down at the people below, he cursed. They were all leaving the Throne Room.

'Damn it, damn it, damn it! Why the hell do they have to leave now?! I don't even know what's happening in this Nightmare!'

After a few minutes, the room was empty except for a handful of people. The King and Queen remained, along with the portly man who had started the meeting. Another man—extremely old, with a hunched back and a colorful green mask—stood near the thrones as well.

Soon, the King turned to his side and gave a slow, lecherous smile.

"Do you hear that, Peara? Our priests cannot get help from our God."

Queen Peara slowly turned her head toward the King and smiled back at him.

"Yes, I did. Our priests indeed cannot receive help from God."

With that, they both began to laugh, their voices sounding as though something were stuck in their throats. Soon enough, they stopped, and Barax looked at the portly man.

"Mundane Dain, you have done well. On my name, King Barax, I shall reward you with the promised payment. For your cooperation, your next three generations shall not starve."

Hearing this, Mundane Dain dropped to his knees and bowed to the king. He began shouting things along the lines of, 'I will never betray you', but Juno wasn't listening anymore. Instead, he was trying to slither toward one of the ends of the chandelier he was on to try and get down, all with a slightly sour glint in his eyes.

'I see what's going on now. This is some corrupt kingdom and I am going to do something related to the king and his corruption. Interesting…"

To Juno's dismay, he could not find a safe way down from the chandelier besides slithering off and hoping for the best. Back on Earth, he had seen clips of snakes dropping from extreme heights, so he knew he would likely survive. The problem was, it was going to hurt a lot to fall over 20 meters down to the ground. Worse, he didn't know when the remaining people would leave, so he needed to act quickly.

'Besides that, however, there are some things I need to understand better.'

Opening his Runes, Juno reread his Attributes and Aspect and noticed something he had missed the first time.

The specific wording for [The War] was that he had "taken" the divine lineage—not inherited it or been granted it. It also massively worried him what the Spell meant by "Hide it well, or else…", as if it were a cartoon villain trying to intimidate a hostage.

Unable to reach any conclusions, Juno moved on to his most problematic Attribute—[Anunnaki].From what he remembered, Nephilim were described as beings born of both the Divine and the Profane—whatever the Profane actually was. But, he was more than just a Nephilim—he was part Nightmare Creature as well.

If Juno had grown up in the world of Shadow Slave, he might have been disgusted to learn that a large part of him was humanity's greatest enemy, but the simple fact was that he was not part of this world. He didn't give a shit what his body in this world was made of, as long as his mind stayed the same.

Unfortunately, Juno didn't have time to dwell on his developing philosophy, because at that moment, he caught the end of an important sentence.

"...Please, Your Majesties, allow me to escort you back to your chambers."

Grinning inwardly, Juno steeled himself for the pain he was about to feel and began putting his plan into action.
