Chapter 10 - Chapter X: Shower Fun

The cabin door creaked open as Ray and Kate stepped inside.

Almost at the same time, both of them dropped their bags onto the wooden floor with tired thuds. The long day at the lake had clearly taken its toll.

Ray didn't waste another second.

He walked over to the bed and threw himself onto it, landing on his back with a satisfied sigh as the mattress bounced lightly beneath him.

Kate stopped near the door and stared at him like he had just done something incredibly stupid.

Ray noticed the look and tilted his head up to see her.

"What?"

Kate folded her arms.

"Maybe wash before jumping into your bed?"

Ray didn't move from the bed.

"Nah," he said with a smirk. "I want to make sure you smell my stink all night."

Kate rolled her eyes immediately, clearly unimpressed with the comment.

She walked past him toward the small sink area near the corner of the cabin, shaking her head as she grabbed a towel.

The room still carried the faint scent of lake water, sunscreen, and warm wood from the sun that had baked the cabin walls all afternoon.

Ray stretched out across the mattress like he had no intention of moving anytime soon, while Kate rinsed the sand and lake water off her arms.

Outside, the camp had begun to come alive again.

Voices drifted between the cabins, someone laughed loudly somewhere near the fire pit, and the faint crackle of wood burning carried through the open window.

The night at Camp Willow Creek was just getting started.

Ray lay there for a moment, staring up at the wooden ceiling.

The sounds of the camp outside drifted in through the window—laughter, music starting somewhere near the fire pit, and the low murmur of people gathering for whatever the night was going to bring.

But Ray wasn't really in the mood for it.

At least his body wasn't.

The leftover hangover from the night before was still sitting stubbornly in the back of his head, making his limbs feel heavier than usual.

The bed suddenly felt far more inviting than anything happening outside.

For the moment, getting up again didn't seem like a great idea.

Kate was still busy washing the sand from her arms and legs, the small sink barely big enough for what she was trying to do. Water splashed lightly against the metal basin as she rinsed the last grains of sand off her skin.

She was still in her swimsuit, her damp hair hanging loosely down her back.

After a moment, she noticed something.

Ray's eyes.

Every now and then, while lying on the bed, he glanced in her direction before quickly looking back up at the ceiling like nothing had happened.

At first she ignored it.

But after the third or fourth time, she was certain.

He was definitely looking at her.

Kate paused for a second, drying her arms slowly as she pretended not to notice, though a faint hint of amusement appeared on her face.

Kate finished rinsing the sand from her legs and straightened up.

For a moment she simply stood there, pretending to focus on drying off while staying aware of Ray on the bed behind her.

Then, almost casually, she lifted herself slightly onto the balls of her feet for a brief second before settling back down again.

The small movement made her body shift naturally, the motion subtle but noticeable.

From the bed, Ray's gaze flicked in her direction again before he quickly looked back toward the ceiling, like he had just been caught thinking about something else.

Kate noticed.

A faint, almost mischievous smile tugged at the corner of her lips as she continued drying off, acting as if nothing had happened.

Ray's voice came from the bed without him even turning his head.

"If you think I didn't notice that you shook your ass on purpose…"

He didn't finish the sentence.

Kate paused for half a second, then smirked as she grabbed her towel and walked toward the small bathroom.

The door closed behind her with a soft click.

A moment later her voice came through the door.

"I didn't, pervert!"

Ray let out a quiet laugh and stretched slightly on the bed, staring back up at the ceiling while the sounds of water running started inside the bathroom.

Outside, the noise of the campfire gathering continued to grow as night settled over Camp Willow Creek.

Kate stepped into the shower and let the water run over her shoulders, washing away the last bits of sand and lake water.

For a moment she just stood there, letting the warmth relax her muscles after the long day.

Then a thought crossed her mind.

It had been a week.

She hadn't really taken care of herself in that way since arriving at camp.

The realization made her pause for a second.

Was it him?

The thought of Ray flashed briefly through her mind—the teasing, the lake, the way he had looked at her earlier.

She immediately shook her head under the running water.

It's normal.

Humans have certain urges.

The day had been full of energy, teasing, and tension. Anyone would feel a little worked up after that.

Kate exhaled slowly, trying to clear her thoughts while the sound of the shower filled the small bathroom.

Outside in the cabin, Ray was still stretched across the bed, the faint sounds of the campfire gathering drifting through the window.

After a moment, her hand drifted lower.

A soft breath escaped her lips as she leaned slightly against the wall, eyes closing for a second.

The warm water ran down her body as her breathing slowly changed, becoming quieter… heavier.

She bit her lip, trying to keep the sound down.

"He can't hear me," Kate whispered to herself.

Her movements became a little faster.

Her breath caught.

Did he hear me?

The thought made her pause for half a second—but only for a moment.

Her body didn't listen.

A soft, muffled sound escaped her as tension built quickly, her legs tensing slightly.

Then—

Her body gave in.

Kate leaned her forehead lightly against the wall, breathing unevenly as the feeling slowly faded.

For a moment, she just stood there, letting the water run over her.

Then she exhaled slowly and reached for the towel.

As she dried herself, she paused briefly.

I'm still wet… maybe he's getting to me more than I thought.

She shook her head lightly, dismissing the thought as she finished drying off and got dressed.

The warmth from the shower still lingered on her skin as she brushed a few damp strands of hair away from her face. For a moment, she just stood there, listening.

Outside the bathroom door, the cabin was quiet.

The faint sounds of the camp drifted in through the open window—laughter near the fire pit, someone strumming a guitar, the low murmur of voices carrying through the night air.

Kate opened the bathroom door and stepped back into the room.

Ray was still on the bed, lying on his back with one arm behind his head. The dim light from the small lamp beside the bed cast soft shadows across the wooden walls of the cabin.

For a moment, neither of them said anything.

Kate stepped into the room, still drying a strand of damp hair with the towel.

"Enjoyed it?" Ray said calmly.

She stopped mid-step and looked at him in shock.

Before she could say anything, he added quickly.

"The shower, I mean."

Kate narrowed her eyes at him for a second, trying to decide whether he was serious or just messing with her again, while Ray remained lying on the bed with the same relaxed expression on his face.

"Yes, thank you," she said politely.

Ray looked at her for a second, a little curious about the overly formal tone, but he didn't think much of it.

Kate walked over to her bag, pulled out a hair dryer, and plugged it into the small outlet near the bed. Then she hopped up onto the mattress, sitting comfortably as she began drying her hair, the soft hum of the dryer filling the cabin.

Ray shifted slightly on his side to make room, watching the warm air push her damp hair back as the night sounds drifted in through the window.

He glanced at her from time to time.

The steady hum of the hair dryer filled the small cabin as Kate ran it through her damp hair, warm air blowing the strands back over her shoulders.

Ray didn't say anything, but the sound relaxed him more than he expected.

He had always liked that sound.

When he was a kid, he used to steal his mom's hair dryer sometimes. Something about the soft hum and the warmth of the air always made him feel sleepy almost instantly.

Now, lying on the bed with the quiet night outside and the warm sound of the dryer filling the room, he felt his eyes growing heavier.

And after a few moments, he dozed off.

The steady hum of the hair dryer blended with the quiet sounds of the camp outside—the distant crackle of the fire pit and the low murmur of voices drifting through the trees.

Ray's breathing slowed as sleep finally caught up with him, his body still tired from the long day at the lake.

Kate continued drying her hair for a little while longer, the warm air filling the room as the night at Camp Willow Creek settled in.
