Chapter 7 - First Strike

I caught her arm before the pen could hit my eye. I accepted Darius a bit as he told me to and felt shocked by the immediate energy flowing through me. It was a dark, electric current that surged up my arm, igniting something deep within my gut. I didn't think; I just moved.

My body twisted, a fluid, violent motion that was entirely foreign to me. I grabbed the blonde's arm, pivoted on my heel, and with a grunt of exertion, I flipped her clean over my shoulder. She flew through the air, a tangle of limbs and shocked shrieks, before slamming into the wall with a sickening thud that silenced the entire classroom. I could feel a sudden energy flowing through me and filling me up instantly, a heady, intoxicating power that made my blood sing.

Kill her!

Kill her now!

Break her bones!

Tear her flesh!

The thoughts weren't my own, they were a primal, savage roar in my head, that was both terrifying and exhilarating.

"Aren't you crazy?!" A hand clamped down on my shoulder. That girl who followed Fauna's group around like a little dog. Frosted tipped douchebag.

It snapped me out of whatever bloodlusting thoughts had started forming.

"Let me go," I demanded. She did without me having to ask twice, her eyes wide with a fear that was almost satisfying. I picked up the pen and walked over to the blond, who was struggling to her feet, her face a mask of disbelief and pain. I tapped the pen to her forehead, the plastic cool against her skin. "Stop looking at me like that if you hate the sight of me so much or I'll pluck your eyes out and feed them to you myself."

"You-" her sudden movement made my hand flick and the red pen exploded all over her face, a spray of crimson ink that covered her in a sticky, bloody-looking mess.

Everyone and everything felt incredibly still in the moment. But one thing stood out more than the ink on her face. No one was coming to help her. "Make sure you have better backing before picking fights with anyone in the future."

There.

There was nothing more humiliating that getting knocked down by the biggest loser in school. That should be enough to torture her... right?

I can't believe I was able to knock someone down. It was almost like... I wasted all this time being scared of altercation... really for nothing. I think I'm more embarrassed than anything.

How embarrassing is that. I turned to the girl who was ignoring me before. "Can you show me where the lunchroom is?" I asked.

The girl got up and nodded following behind me and we left behind a classroom of stunned idiots. I should feel triumphant! But I kind of want to vomit.

Sure I have a demon backer now but that didn't erase years of conditioning myself to be afraid of everything. I couldn't even enjoy my victory because all I could think was: holy shit! Holy shit! Holy shit!

I need some fresh air.

Instead of following the girl to the cafeteria, I led us to the courtyard. It was filled with flowers of every color, their sweet fragrance a stark contrast to the usual smell of disinfectant and teenage anxiety. In the center stood a fancy gazebo, its white paint gleaming in the sunlight.

Usually at this time I'd be running errands for the other kids for lunch and if I was more than a few seconds late with an order, I got a smack or a verbal beat down. Because of the amount by the time I was done running around I'd have to skip lunch just to make it back to class on time.

I've never warmed up and relaxed here before.

"Next time don't let this happen again," I said to the girl following me. "You've got hands to fight, don't you?"

"What the hell are you talking about?" She whimpered. Did I miss something? "I'm so screwed! Because of you I'm also in trouble now! They'll definitely retaliate so why did you do that? Do you have a grudge against me."

Is this how pathetic I used to look and sound? "S-stop crying."

"You... are you doing this on purpose? Is this because I was pretending not to see you get bullied?! Do you think I'm comfortable?" She snapped.

What a bitch. Not even a thank you.

"Understood," I waved her off and continued walking on my own. I haven't had any friends for a long time and I'm not suddenly starving for anyone to suddenly be on my side.

Speaking of... I didn't ask for any lunch money this morning.

Guess I wasn't going to have lunch anyway.

Something splatted against my head and fell to the ground. I looked to see a melted cream pie, its white filling and soggy crust a familiar, disgusting sight.

It could only be that damn linebacker Helen. She beat me up once because they ran out of her favorite snack. I'd been bruised all over my stomach for at least a week because of this exact cream pie. And she was walking towards me like a wild buffalo, her heavy footsteps thudding on the paved path.

"Hey? You like your food?" Helen called out. What a pig. Should I just ignore her and keep on walking to enjoy the quiet or do I... no I already decided that I have a backer and won't back down.

"Hey! Why aren't you answering me?! I asked if it was delicious!" She snapped getting close to my face. What am I supposed to say right now? It's not like I've ever tasted one. "I forgot the msg! Someone like you wouldn't know about this."

Helen spat on me. I gasped, the warm, saliva hitting my cheek.

"Did I add too much? Too salty now? Doesn't it make you crave some real food, skinny bitch!" Helen taunted.

I looked at my watch. If I want to get food I've got twenty minutes left. I'll be starving until dinner since I couldn't eat due to nerves this morning. What a shitty schedule.

"Are you mute? Do you even understand what's happening right now?" Helen snapped as I kept on ignoring her to rile her up. She was going red as I kept on thinking what I'd buy. I know the school menu because I've been buying for so many people but I've never once tasted it. "HOW LONG ARE YOU GOING TO KEEP IGNORING ME!!!"

She swiped at me but I was able to quickly dodge it, getting a reaction from the crowd that had started to gather around to watch and eat. "Listen I'm in a good mood so why don't you just leave me alone already, Fatass. I don't have any food for you."

Fuck! Where did my usual filter go? Why did I call her that?! I wasn't trying to!

Helen went tomato red now. The crowd of students was growing and looking at us. They were laughing at me calling her a fatass.

With a loud yell Helen came barreling towards me.

This many spectators should be enough to completely remove this bitch's head from her body and send a clear message not to mess with me.

I'm going to let her blood pour from every open crevice.
