A piece of the shining wall slides open. The room it leads to is even brighter, making it impossible to see anything inside. You hear the sound of chunky metal clanging against the ground, one clang after another.
When the wall closes, a being made of metal and multicolored wires stands before you, a robotic automaton. It resembles a steel humanoid skeleton, but its head is made from a smooth glass casing. Its lack of defining human features beyond its purpose is unsettling.
"Welcome to the White Room Trial," a voice booms. There are no visible speakers, no obvious direction it's coming from, but you recognize the man talking.
The voice belongs to Gearhead, a superhero known as the smartest person in the world. He uses his technological mastery to outfit the Wardens of Truth with any weapons or equipment they need. Now that includes robots, apparently. "This automaton is programmed for battle. It is up to you to survive against it."
You're ready for this. You've trained for years. You've even been practicing your new powers, but Gearhead dashes your plans with his next statement.
"In the first stage, we want to gauge your innate capabilities," he says. A red light appears above you, turning the room a pale pink as the red and white lights blend. "Avoid using your powers until the light turns green."
It's already not going how you expected, and your judges can read your emotions on your face.
