Chapter 9 - Episode 9: The Day He Couldn’t Stay Away

That day, something felt wrong.

Meera Verma couldn't explain it, but her heart kept beating unevenly since morning. Not fear… not excitement…

Something in between.

Like a warning she couldn't hear clearly.

She went to college anyway.

Tried to act normal.

Tried to smile.

But her thoughts kept drifting back to him.

Kabir Rajvansh.

His words. His silence. His distance.

And that strange look in his eyes…

Like he was holding himself back from something dangerous.

Meanwhile…

Kabir Rajvansh was already losing patience.

Not with others.

With himself.

"Boss, the northern deal is ready," his assistant said carefully.

Kabir didn't respond immediately.

His eyes were fixed on his phone.

A live location feed.

Meera Verma.

Still at college.

Still safe.

That was becoming his habit now.

Watching her.

Without her knowing.

Without permission.

Without control.

"Cancel the meeting," Kabir said suddenly.

His assistant froze. "Again?"

Kabir stood up.

"Yes."

A pause.

"I'm going there."

Silence.

Even his men didn't question him after that.

Because when Kabir Rajvansh decided something…

it was already done.

At college…

Meera was walking out of the library when she noticed something strange.

People were staring.

Whispering.

Pointing.

Her steps slowed.

Something was wrong.

"Meera…" her friend grabbed her arm, nervous. "There are men outside asking about you again."

Meera frowned. "What kind of men?"

Her friend hesitated.

"Dangerous ones."

Before Meera could respond…

a black car stopped near the gate.

This time… not far.

Not hidden.

Direct.

Meera's breath caught.

Because she already knew.

Even before seeing him.

The door opened.

Kabir Rajvansh stepped out.

And the entire atmosphere changed instantly.

Students went silent.

The air turned heavy.

Fear spread without words.

Meera stood frozen.

"Why are you here?" she asked softly.

Kabir walked closer.

Slow.

Controlled.

But his eyes were different today.

Not distant.

Not cold.

Focused.

"I told myself I wouldn't come," he said.

A pause.

"But I stopped listening to myself a long time ago."

Meera's heart skipped.

"That's not an answer."

Kabir stopped right in front of her.

Close enough now that she could feel the danger… and the warmth behind it.

"You're being watched," he said quietly.

Meera frowned. "By who?"

Kabir's jaw tightened.

"By people who don't care if you live or die… as long as they get to me."

Silence.

Heavy.

Shocking.

Meera stepped back slightly.

"So I'm… a target because of you?"

Kabir didn't deny it.

That silence was the answer.

For the first time…

Meera saw the truth behind him.

Not power.

Not mystery.

But burden.

Kabir's voice lowered.

"That's why I stayed away."

A pause.

"That's why I ignored you."

His eyes darkened.

"But it didn't work."

Meera swallowed hard.

"Then what now?"

Kabir looked at her for a long moment.

And for the first time…

he didn't have an answer that involved distance.

Because the truth was simple.

He had already failed.

Ignoring her was never protection.

It was just delay.

And now…

the danger had already found her.

Because of him.

To be continued… 💔
