Chapter 4 - The First Move

Morning light poured into the Hart residence.

Evelyn sat at the dining table, calm and composed.

Across from her, Chairman Hart studied her carefully.

"You're different," he said suddenly.

Evelyn paused slightly, then smiled.

"Is that a bad thing?"

The old man shook his head slowly.

"No."

His gaze sharpened.

"It's a good thing."

Silence fell between them.

Then—

"Tell me," he continued, "what exactly happened between you and Damian?"

Evelyn lowered her eyes briefly.

In her previous life, she had hidden everything. She had endured everything alone.

But not this time.

"We're divorced," she said simply.

Chairman Hart's expression darkened.

"That boy dared—"

"I signed it myself," Evelyn interrupted calmly.

The old man froze.

"You… agreed?"

Evelyn nodded.

"Yes."

Chairman Hart stared at her for a long moment.

Then—

"Good."

Evelyn looked up, slightly surprised.

The old man snorted coldly.

"The Laurent family doesn't deserve you."

A faint warmth rose in Evelyn's chest.

"Thank you, Grandpa."

Chairman Hart waved his hand.

"Enough about that."

His tone turned serious.

"If you're back… then it's time you take responsibility."

Evelyn's eyes sharpened slightly.

"Responsibility?"

"The Hart Group," he said. "I want you to step in."

Evelyn's fingers paused.

In her previous life, she never got this chance.

Because she chose Damian over everything.

Now—

She smiled.

"I'll do it."

---

At the same time, across the city—

Selena Vale sat in a luxurious suite, her expression cold.

"She signed?"

Her assistant nodded nervously.

"Yes, Miss Vale. The divorce is finalized."

Selena leaned back slowly.

A faint smile appeared on her lips.

"Finally."

She picked up a glass of wine.

"Five years…"

Her eyes gleamed.

"That useless woman lasted longer than I expected."

The assistant hesitated.

"But Miss Vale… there's something strange."

Selena glanced at her.

"Speak."

"She didn't take anything from the divorce."

Selena's hand paused mid-air.

"…What?"

"She rejected all compensation."

Silence.

Then—

Selena laughed softly.

"Interesting."

Her eyes turned sharp.

"So she's pretending to have dignity now?"

The assistant lowered her head.

"Should we… keep watching her?"

Selena took a sip of wine.

"No need."

Her smile deepened.

"She's already out of the game."

---

Back at the Hart residence—

Evelyn stood in a sleek office.

Documents were neatly arranged on the desk.

Hart Group.

One of the most powerful corporations in the city.

And now—

She was stepping into it.

"Miss Hart."

A man in a suit approached her.

"I'm your assistant, Daniel."

Evelyn nodded slightly.

"Prepare the latest reports."

"Yes, Miss Hart."

As Daniel turned to leave, Evelyn spoke again.

"And—"

He stopped.

"Investigate Selena Vale."

Daniel's expression changed slightly.

"…Understood."

Evelyn walked to the window.

The city stretched endlessly before her.

This was her battlefield now.

And she had just made her first move.

---

That afternoon—

A piece of news quietly spread through the upper circles.

Miss Evelyn Hart had officially returned to the Hart Group.

At the same time—

Laurent Group.

Damian looked at the report in his hand.

His expression darkened.

"She joined Hart Group?"

"Yes, Mr. Laurent."

Silence.

For some reason—

He felt a sudden, inexplicable pressure.

As if—

The woman who once revolved around him…

Had entered a completely different world.
