Chapter 3 - **The Things We Don’t Say**

The path didn't feel the same anymore.

Not because it had changed…

…but because they had.

Laughter still filled the air, Leo still made unnecessary jokes, Clara still rolled her eyes at everything, and Sophie still laughed a little too loud. But underneath it all, something invisible had shifted—something no one could fully explain.

It started with new faces.

"Guys, I brought people," Leo announced one evening, way too excited as usual.

Behind him stood two unfamiliar figures.

A tall boy with messy dark hair stepped forward first. "Alex," he said simply, his voice confident, almost too confident.

Next to him, a girl crossed her arms slightly, her sharp eyes scanning everyone before softening just a little. "Helena."

"Try to behave," Clara muttered to Leo.

"No promises," Leo whispered back.

More introductions followed.

Daniel, who barely spoke but watched everything carefully.

Noah, who joked around but seemed to test people with his words.

Lucas, easygoing, always smiling—but never too much.

The group grew bigger.

Louder.

More complicated.

At first, it felt exciting.

But then… things started to change.

Alex fit in too easily.

Too quickly.

He laughed at the right moments, spoke with confidence, and somehow always found himself next to Una.

"You think too much," he told her one day, smirking slightly. "You should just say what's on your mind."

Una raised an eyebrow. "Not everyone likes saying everything."

"Or maybe," Alex said, leaning back casually, "they're just scared of what happens if they do."

Una didn't answer.

But across the path—

Ayaan was watching.

He didn't interrupt.

Didn't say anything.

Just looked away.

That was the first moment.

Small.

Almost nothing.

But it stayed.

Later that evening, Helena sat beside Ayaan, her voice calm but direct.

"You don't like him."

Ayaan glanced at her. "Who?"

"Alex."

Ayaan didn't respond immediately.

Helena smirked slightly. "You're bad at hiding things."

"I don't care," Ayaan said, a little too quickly.

Helena studied him for a second longer… then nodded like she understood something he didn't.

"Sure," she said quietly.

Across the group, Leo nudged Una. "You and Alex talk a lot."

Una frowned. "We just talk."

"Yeah," Leo said, grinning. "That's how it starts."

"It's not like that."

"Then what is it like?"

Una didn't have an answer.

And for some reason…

she didn't look at Ayaan.

Days passed.

Moments stacked on top of each other.

Ayaan spoke less.

Una noticed—but didn't ask.

Alex stayed close.

Closer than necessary.

Helena watched everything.

One evening, as the sun disappeared behind the trees, something simple happened.

Una laughed at something Alex said.

Not loudly.

Not in a special way.

Just… naturally.

But Ayaan saw it.

And this time—

he didn't look away.

He stood up.

"I should go," he said, his voice calm, but distant again.

Una blinked. "Already?"

"Yeah."

He didn't explain.

Didn't wait.

Just walked away.

And for the first time—

Una felt it.

That strange, uncomfortable feeling.

Like something was slipping…

and she didn't know how to hold onto it.

Behind her, Alex watched Ayaan leave, his expression unreadable.

"Guess he doesn't like staying," he said casually.

Una didn't respond.

Because deep down…

she knew it wasn't that simple.

And somewhere between silence, assumptions, and things left unsaid—

the misunderstanding had already begun.
