THE FIRST NIGHT
The mansion stood silent, as if it had been waiting.
Mayra tightened her grip on the suitcase.
"It's just an old house," she whispered to herself.
But something about it felt… wrong.
The gate creaked as she pushed it open.
No wind. No sound.
Yet the trees around the mansion trembled slightly—like they were alive.
Inside, the air was cold. Too cold.
Mayra stepped in, her footsteps echoing louder than they should.
"Hello?" she called out.
No response.
She checked her phone. No signal.
Of course.
The clock on the wall ticked loudly.
11:59 PM.
"Perfect timing," she sighed, placing her bag down.
The second her eyes left the clock…
It stopped.
12:00 AM.
A loud THUD echoed from upstairs.
Mayra froze.
"Probably just… wood," she whispered.
Another sound.
This time… footsteps.
Slow.
Heavy.
Coming closer.
Her breath quickened.
"Hello? Is someone there?"
Silence.
Then—
A whisper.
Right behind her ear.
"Mayra…"
She turned instantly.
No one.
Her hands trembled.
"I'm just imagining things…"
Suddenly, the mirror across the room caught her attention.
She saw herself.
Standing still.
But behind her—
