MAYA P.O.V
I shuffled into the kitchen, grabbing a snack. Mom was on the phone, her voice low and urgent.
"…I need her back, please. I need her here…"
I paused, curious. Who's she?
Mom's voice dropped to a whisper, but I caught the plea… for my sake. Mom isn't the type to beg, so who the hell is that?
My phone vibrated. Damn this phone. "Hiss." Mom suddenly went quiet. She turned, eyes red.
"Maya, what are you doing?"
I raised an eyebrow. "Mom, what's going on?"
"It's nothing," she tried to brush it off.
I know better than to let it go, and she knows it. "Mom, I just overheard your conversation. You said nothing! Who is she? Who is that?"
I hoped it wasn't… Mary, right?
Mom's face closed up. "Maya, just drop it."
No! I'm not going to have her come here and destroy everything I've built. "Pick up the damn phone and tell that person she's not needed here!" I said, seeing red.
Mom just looked at me like I was crazy, then moved to leave the kitchen.
"Mom, please," I begged, knowing fully well she wasn't buying anything I was saying.
"She is your sister, Maya. Let's not argue. She is coming next week, so tidy her room, okay?"
"Hiccups… Mom, please!"
Mom left like I was never there, like I didn't just ask for something. She always does this.
My phone dinged with a notification from Lucy, asking about our girl's night out. I snubbed it. I just want to sleep. I need my sleep… I need more than sleep. Next week is going to be… hectic, or so I assume
