Chapter 10 - Chapter 9: Betrayal in the Shadows

The mansion was quiet—too quiet. Aanya's instincts screamed that something was wrong. She moved cautiously through the dim corridors, every step echoing in the silence.

Rey followed closely behind, his dark eyes scanning every corner. "Something's off," he said, his voice low and tense.

Before she could ask, the door to the study creaked open. Papers were scattered across the floor, drawers left ajar. And there, in the shadows, stood someone she didn't expect—a familiar face, one she had trusted.

"You… you were working with them?" Aanya whispered, her voice trembling.

The person didn't answer. Their eyes flicked nervously, guilt flashing before they bolted toward the balcony. Aanya's heart sank. Betrayal ran deeper than she imagined.

Rey's hand shot out, grabbing her arm and pulling her to the ground just as gunfire erupted from the balcony. Shards of glass and chaos filled the room.

"You can't trust anyone," Rey growled, his protective instincts blazing. "Not yet. Not here. Not now."

Aanya felt the heat of his hand on hers, firm and unyielding. She hated how much it calmed her, even as danger swirled around them. The lines between fear, trust, and desire were blurring.

As the gunfire subsided, Rey helped her to her feet. "We survive together," he said, eyes dark and unreadable. "That's all that matters."

Aanya swallowed hard, realizing she was already caught—caught in a web of secrets, danger, and a man who both terrified and enthralled her.
