Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 — The System Evolves

Marvin did not move for a long time.

He sat on the cold floor of the East Wing, staring at the place where the rift had been, half-expecting it to tear open again just to ruin his day.

"…If you open again," he muttered, pointing weakly, "I'm quitting."

Nothing happened.

Good.

Finally, he pushed himself up, legs still shaky. "Okay… let's just… pretend that didn't almost kill me."

DING!

> System Update Initiated…

Analyzing Host Performance…

Evaluating Guest House Stability…

Marvin blinked. "…That sounds important."

The air around him shifted.

For the first time since he arrived, the system window didn't just appear—it expanded.

Panels unfolded one after another, forming layers of glowing screens filled with symbols, numbers, and information he couldn't fully understand.

> Performance Rating: Acceptable

Guest Satisfaction: Stable

Threat Response: Successful

Marvin frowned. "Acceptable? I just fought off a nightmare hand!"

The system ignored him.

> Condition Met: System Evolution Unlocked.

"…Wait."

The Guest House trembled.

Not violently—but deeply, like something inside it was stretching after a long sleep.

The walls glowed faintly.

Doors shifted.

Some disappeared.

New ones appeared.

Marvin's eyes widened. "Oh no… it's changing again."

DING!

> New Features Unlocked:

– Guest Registry

– Room Customization

– Basic Shop

Marvin stared.

"…Shop?"

A new panel popped up instantly.

> System Shop (Basic Tier)

– Simple Furniture Pack

– Stabilization Crystals

– Low-Grade Energy Food

– Decorative Illusion Lights

Marvin leaned closer. "You mean I can actually buy things now?"

He tapped one of the items.

A small glowing crystal materialized in his hand.

He yelped and almost dropped it. "Okay! No warning again!"

The crystal pulsed softly, warm to the touch.

> Item: Stabilization Crystal

Use: Enhances structural stability in affected areas.

Marvin looked toward the East Wing.

"…Yeah, I'm definitely putting this there."

Before he could move, another notification appeared.

DING!

> New System Feature: Guest Registry Activated.

A list opened in front of him.

Names appeared one by one:

Star-Kind Traveler

Flameborne Wanderer

Whispering Shadow

Glimmerfin

Ironjaw

Each name had stats, symbols, and something labeled "Affinity."

Marvin squinted. "Affinity… like how much they like me?"

He tapped Glimmerfin.

> Affinity: High (Friendly)

He smiled. "Okay, at least someone here likes me."

He tapped the Whispering Shadow.

> Affinity: Unknown (Unstable)

"…Yeah, that makes sense."

Suddenly, footsteps echoed.

Ironjaw approached, ducking slightly under the doorway.

"The shaking has stopped," he said. "You handled the disturbance well."

Marvin scratched the back of his head. "Barely."

Ironjaw looked at the glowing panels around him.

"You grow stronger," he observed.

Marvin glanced at the system.

"…I guess I do."

DING!

> New Quest Assigned: Upgrade the Guest House.

Objective: Improve one facility using the System Shop.

Reward: Expansion Access (Locked Area Unlock).

Marvin's eyes lit up. "Locked area?"

He looked down the hallway.

There were still doors he hadn't opened.

Places he hadn't explored.

And now… the system was telling him to grow.

To expand.

To build.

He looked at the crystal in his hand, then back at the East Wing.

"…Alright," he said quietly.

"No more barely surviving."

He started walking.

"If I'm going to run this place…"

The lights of the Guest House brightened slightly, as if responding to his determination.

"…then I'm going to do it properly."

Behind him, the system pulsed.

Watching.

Learning.

Evolving.

And somewhere far beyond the edge of reality…

Something else stirred—

Not with curiosity this time.

But with interest.
