Chapter 8 - CHAPTER 8: The First Private Date

The villa was bathed in warm afternoon light as the three girls walked toward the private date area. Sohee had chosen Yerin and Dahye, and Yerin's heart fluttered with a mix of excitement and nervous anticipation. She had been picked by Sohee—her top choice—and Dahye, someone she was beginning to notice in a way that made her chest tighten, would also be there. She carefully kept her composure, hiding any outward sign of interest.

Dahye walked beside them, calm and composed as always, her mind focused entirely on Sohee. She saw Yerin as little more than a friendly rival, someone who could interfere with her chances of getting closer to Sohee. Every glance or movement Yerin made was filtered through that lens, leaving her oblivious to Yerin's growing feelings. Sohee, as always, was cheerful and oblivious to the tension building beneath the surface.

"Welcome! Today's challenge is a cooking activity," Sohee announced brightly. "Three stations, three chefs. Your goal is simple: make the best dessert you can!"

Yerin's hands felt a little cold as she moved toward the center. Her heart fluttered at the thought of being close to Dahye, though she focused on the task at hand. Dahye moved with precise efficiency, preparing the ingredients for the dessert, completely unaware of the subtle glances Yerin occasionally cast in her direction.

"Sohee, you'll handle the decoration," Yerin said softly, stepping back to mix the batter. "Dahye, you can prep the fruit."

Dahye nodded without looking at Yerin, entirely absorbed in Sohee's guidance. Yerin's eyes followed her anyway, noting the calm efficiency in Dahye's movements and feeling a quiet tug in her chest. Every small gesture, the way Dahye moved around the counter, made Yerin's heart skip a beat.

"Sohee, I think the frosting could use a bit more sugar," Yerin said, leaning slightly over the counter. Her shoulder brushed against Dahye's for a brief moment, and she caught Dahye's meticulous movements from the corner of her eye. She didn't look directly, careful not to reveal anything, but her mind lingered on Dahye in a way she couldn't hide from herself.

Dahye remained focused on Sohee, chopping and arranging ingredients with precision. She noticed Sohee's energy and humor but didn't register Yerin's quiet attention at all. Yerin's presence in the workspace barely registered in her mind beyond being someone nearby—competitor, nothing more.

After the desserts were ready, the three moved back together to a cozy garden table where the staff had set up a casual space with tea and pastries. Sohee chatted freely with Yerin, laughing and teasing, drawing Yerin out of her usual composure. Yerin responded easily, but her attention drifted subtly to Dahye, watching the way she moved, the calm grace in her gestures. Dahye, focused entirely on Sohee, didn't notice a thing, her thoughts centered only on impressing Sohee and keeping the attention on her.

The afternoon passed with laughter, teasing, and shared bites of dessert, but beneath the surface, Yerin's feelings for Dahye grew quietly, subtly, unspoken. Dahye remained blissfully unaware, only thinking about how to secure Sohee's attention and unaware of the attention Yerin was giving her. Sohee, as usual, was focused on making the activity enjoyable, oblivious to the unspoken currents swirling between the other two girls.

By the end of the date, they all returned to the villa together, walking side by side. Yerin felt a strange mix of happiness and quiet anticipation. She had enjoyed the closeness, the shared laughter, and the subtle moments with Dahye, even if she hadn't spoken to her much. Dahye returned with her usual composed demeanor, satisfied with her connection with Sohee, still oblivious to Yerin's feelings. Sohee hummed happily, chatting about the activity, completely unaware of the quiet tension that had quietly grown between the other two girls.

The first private date ended, leaving subtle threads of tension: Yerin's growing feelings, Dahye's obliviousness, and Sohee's cheerful neutrality, all intertwined and unresolved—an invisible current that would shape the days to come.
