Chapter 5 - Battle Beneath the Shadows

Chapter 5: The Fight in the Darkness

The air turned cold.

So cold that it felt hard to breathe.

The street, once quiet and normal, now felt like a completely different place.

Dark.

Heavy.

Dangerous.

Riya clutched Meera's arm tightly, her whole body shaking.

"Meera… what is that…?"

Her voice was barely a whisper now.

Meera couldn't answer.

Her eyes were locked on the shadow in front of them.

Her heart was pounding so fast it felt like it would burst out of her chest.

But Arjun—

He didn't look scared at all.

He stood firmly in front of them.

Like a shield.

"Stay behind me," he said again, his voice calm but commanding.

Meera instinctively pulled Riya back.

They both stepped behind him.

The shadow moved slowly.

Its form twisting, shifting, never fully clear.

Like darkness itself was alive.

"She doesn't belong to you," it said in a distorted voice.

Arjun's eyes narrowed.

"She's not yours either."

A tense silence filled the air.

The wind stopped completely.

Even the faint sounds of the city had disappeared.

Then—

In an instant—

The shadow attacked.

It rushed forward at an unnatural speed, its arm stretching toward Meera.

"Move!" Arjun shouted.

Meera and Riya stepped back quickly.

Arjun reacted instantly.

He grabbed the shadow's arm mid-air.

A sharp sound echoed—

Like something breaking.

The shadow let out a low, angry hiss.

Meera's eyes widened.

How is he doing this…?

Arjun pushed it back with force.

The shadow slid across the ground, then steadied itself.

For the first time—

It looked… surprised.

"You've gotten stronger," it said.

Arjun didn't reply.

But his expression became even more serious.

The shadow attacked again.

Faster this time.

More aggressive.

Arjun dodged its strike smoothly.

Every movement precise.

Controlled.

Like he had done this many times before.

Meera watched in shock.

This wasn't normal.

This wasn't possible.

"Arjun… who are you…?" she whispered.

But he didn't hear her.

Or maybe—

He chose not to answer.

The fight continued.

Each movement faster than the last.

Each attack more dangerous.

Suddenly—

The shadow changed direction.

Instead of attacking Arjun—

It rushed toward Riya.

"RIYA!" Meera screamed.

Riya froze in fear.

She couldn't move.

Everything happened in a second.

The shadow reached out—

But before it could touch her—

Arjun appeared in front of her instantly.

He blocked the attack.

This time—

The impact was stronger.

Arjun stepped back slightly.

A small cut appeared on his arm.

Meera's heart dropped.

"Arjun!"

The shadow laughed.

"You can't protect both."

Arjun looked at it coldly.

"…I don't need to."

Before the shadow could react—

Arjun moved.

Fast.

He grabbed the shadow and slammed it to the ground.

A powerful force spread through the air.

For a moment—

Everything went silent.

The shadow struggled… then slowly started fading.

"This isn't over…" it whispered.

And then—

It disappeared.

Just like that.

The street returned to normal.

The cold air faded.

The sounds came back.

Riya collapsed to the ground, shaking.

"What… what just happened…?"

Meera rushed to her.

"It's okay… it's gone…"

But her eyes were on Arjun.

He stood there quietly.

Breathing slightly heavier now.

That small cut on his arm…

Still bleeding.

Meera stood up and walked toward him slowly.

"You're hurt…" she said softly.

"It's nothing," Arjun replied.

But Meera shook her head.

"It's not nothing!"

For the first time—

Her voice was filled with both fear… and concern.

Arjun looked at her.

And for a moment—

His expression softened.

Just a little.

"…You shouldn't have seen this," he said quietly.

Meera's eyes filled with emotion.

"Then don't let me face it alone."

Silence.

Arjun didn't reply.

But something changed in that moment.

Something small…

But important.

Because now—

Meera wasn't just someone he had to protect.

She was someone…

Who chose to stay.
