Chapter 26 - CHAPTER 25-DEFEAT

The Funeral of Elia:

The morning sky was gray, heavy with clouds as though the heavens themselves mourned. At the Hornet estate, hundreds gathered—family, workers, allies, and strangers who had only known Elia through her kindness. The air smelled of flowers and candle wax. At the center, on a platform draped in white, rested her coffin, surrounded by stacks of books she loved.Tarus stood at the front, his eyes red from nights without sleep. His father, Pearce, stood beside him, his strong frame broken, tears cutting deep lines down his face. Mia, his mother, clutched a small locket, her cries soft but endless. Homeless stood further back, in the shadows, his head bowed in guilt. The priest spoke softly about life, love, and courage, but the words barely touched the weight of the moment. Finally, Pearce stepped forward, his voice breaking.

Pearce: "Elia was more than my daughter. She was the hope of this family. When we built Hornet, she was there. When Tarus raced, she cheered the loudest. She held us together when the world tore us apart. And now she is gone, taken by cruelty I cannot forgive. Tarus…" He turned to his son. "She believed in you. She trusted you. Carry her story. Don't let her vanish into silence."Mia stepped next, her hands trembling as she placed Elia's favorite book on the coffin.

Mia: "Elia said books live forever because stories never die. So, my child, your story will live in every page, in every life you touched. Tarus… protect that story. For me. For her."

Tarus could barely stand. His knees shook as he walked forward. He placed his hand on the coffin, whispering.

Tarus: "Elia… I should have been there. I should have saved you. I failed as your brother."

Homeless, unable to stay silent, finally stepped forward, his voice raw.

Homeless: "No, Tarus. It was not you who failed—it was me. Malakar came for me. He killed because I defied him. If not for me, she would still be alive. This blood is on my hands."

Tarus turned, his eyes filled with fire. "No. Malakar killed her. And I will kill him. Here and now, I swear—by her grave, by her story—I will end him."

The crowd erupted with grief and cheers at once. The air burned with sorrow, but also with resolve.

Preparation for the Final Battle:

That night, the garage was alive with the roar of machines. Sparks rained as Tarus tightened the last bolts on the Hornet suit. Pearce stood by, his hands steady, though his eyes betrayed his sorrow. Homeless locked into the Shadow Suit, Shade's AI voice calm in his ears.

Shade (AI): "Pilot, your vitals are steady. Weapons charged. This battle may end in death."

Homeless: "Then let it be death for Malakar, not for us."

Tarus turned to Homeless, his face grim but clear.

Tarus: "Tonight, we end it. Hornet and Shadow, side by side."

Homeless: "Together."

The suits powered up, the sound shaking the estate. Their lights cut through the night like beacons. The world felt the shift—the beginning of the end.

The Arrival at Dynamo:

The Dynamo tower pierced the London sky, its windows glowing red with corruption. Shadows crawled over its steel skin like veins of fire. At the top, Malakar waited, his host body—the CEO—mutated beyond recognition. Horns of black fire sprouted from his skull, his hands dripping with shadow blades, his voice echoing across the city.

Malakar: "Come, little heroes. Come and burn."

Hornet and Shadow broke through the glass, shattering into the throne room. The demon's laughter filled the walls.

Tarus: "This ends tonight!"

Homeless: "For Elia. For all of them."

The Battle:

The fight began with chaos. Plasma fire lit the room as Hornet unleashed volleys, forcing Malakar back. Shadow charged in, his gauntlets creating shockwaves that shattered marble floors. Malakar roared, his shadows twisting into spears and whips, slamming the suits into steel beams.

Shade (AI): "Incoming strike—dodge right!"

Homeless rolled aside just as a shadow spear pierced the ground where he stood. He countered with a shockwave punch, blasting Malakar into a wall.Tarus advanced, his frequency cannons glowing. He fired into Malakar's chest, tearing through his healing flames.

Tarus: "Your tricks don't heal against me anymore!"

But Malakar only laughed, his form expanding, breaking the host body apart. He grew larger, wings of fire spreading wide until he towered above them, a true demon unleashed. His roar shook the glass tower, sending cracks racing through the walls.

Malakar: "I am fire! I am shadow! You cannot kill what is eternal!"

Turning the Tide:

Tarus and Homeless moved as one. Hornet blasted plasma beams in rapid bursts, pushing Malakar into the open. Shadow struck with timed shockwaves, breaking the demon's balance. Their AI systems synced, sharing combat data, guiding their every move.

Shade (AI): "Target his core. His chest burns brightest—strike there together."

Tarus shouted, "On my mark!"

They leapt, Hornet's cannons glowing blue, Shadow's gauntlets vibrating with energy. Together, they slammed into Malakar's chest. The explosion rocked the tower, fire and shadow ripping through the air.Malakar screamed, his form unraveling, but still he fought, his claws slashing across Tarus's armor, sparks flying. He hurled Homeless through a wall, cracking the steel beams.

Tarus struggled to stand. "Homeless! Get up!"

Homeless rose, blood on his lips, his suit sparking, but his eyes burned with rage.

Homeless: "I lost my family to you. You killed Elia. I will not fall—not now!"

He charged, slamming both gauntlets into Malakar's head. The shockwave staggered the demon.Tarus fired the final plasma beam into the demon's chest.

Together, they roared, "For Elia!"

The combined strike tore Malakar apart, his body exploding into black fire that turned to ash. His scream echoed one last time before fading into silence.

The Aftermath:

The Dynamo tower shook, half-collapsed, smoke rising into the night. Tarus fell to his knees, his armor sparking. Homeless dropped beside him, his helmet falling away, his face pale but alive.

Tarus whispered, "Elia… it's over."

Homeless placed a hand on his shoulder. "We did it. For her. For everyone."

Outside, the city's lights returned to normal. The shadow was gone. Malakar was no more.

A Father's Words:

When they returned to the Hornet estate, Pearce and Mia were waiting. Pearce's face was wet with tears, but his voice carried strength.

Pearce: "You fought for her. You fought for all of us. She would be proud. She would say—her brother never stopped racing, even against death itself."

Mia handed Tarus Elia's book, the one she placed on the coffin. "Keep this with you, always. Her story will live as long as you fight for what's right."

Tarus pressed the book to his chest. His eyes filled with tears, but his voice was steady.

Tarus: "Elia is gone, but her courage lives in me. And I will never stop."

Homeless stood beside him, no longer a villain, no longer a beggar. He was Shadow now—an ally, a brother in arms. And as dawn broke over London, the world knew: Hornet and Shadow had ended the demon's reign.
