I stepped forward toward the cardboard hut. Thanks to the illusion array, it looked and felt utterly real—weather-beaten wooden planks, cracked walls, even the faint scent of mildew. Anyone would have walked straight into it without a second thought.
I knocked once but there was silence.
Then the door creaked open a crack. One twin's face peered out, followed immediately by her identical sister. Their eyes locked onto mine with the same hungry, predatory gleam they'd used on every victim before.
"Amithaba, benefactors," I said calmly, clasping my hands around the prayer beads still dangling from my neck. "I've come to help you cleanse this evil."
