Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 "Skill"

The dust from the shattered golem was still settling when Kai's vision flickered. It wasn't a glitch; it was the Dragon's Eye kicking in.

The world turned into a blueprint of heat and energy. Most students were dim blue flickers—weak mana pools. Sarah, the class president, was a steady, bright sapphire. But in the far corner, leaning against the equipment lockers, sat a boy Kai didn't recognize.

He looked like a transfer student: pale, with hair as black as ink. To the naked eye, he was just a skinny kid on his phone. Through the Dragon System, he was a void. A pulsing, jagged hole of violet shadow that seemed to swallow the light around him.

[THREAT LEVEL: CALAMITY]

The Silent Confrontation

The stranger looked up. For a split second, their eyes met. The boy's pupils weren't round—they were horizontal slits, like a goat's or a demon's. He offered a slow, chilling smile, then went back to his phone as if Kai hadn't just vaporized a ton of granite.

"Kai! Explain yourself!" Master Thorne's voice broke the trance. The teacher was stomping toward the center of the ring, his hand on his sword hilt. "That wasn't a Rank-F strike. That was a localized mana burst. Where did you get that power?"

Kai's heart hammered against his ribs. The System pulsed a cooling sensation through his chest, steadying his nerves.

"Lie Detected," the System whispered in his mind. "Recommended Narrative: Bloodline Awakening."

"I don't know, Master Thorne," Kai said, his voice dropping an octave, carrying a metallic resonance. "I was attacked in the alley. I thought I was dying... and then something just... snapped."

Thorne paused. Bloodline awakenings under extreme trauma were rare, but they were the only logical explanation for a "Zero" suddenly hitting like a freight train.

The Midnight Library

That night, Kai couldn't sleep. The System kept scrolling through data he didn't understand.

[NEW SUB-QUEST: SHADOW STALKER]

* Objective: Identify the 'Void' student.

* Reward: Passive Skill: Presence Concealment.

He crept out of the dorms, his movements fluid and silent thanks to his boosted Agility. He found himself drawn to the Restricted Section of the Academy library—a place guarded by high-level sensory wards.

"Calculating Ward Frequency..." the System hummed. "Syncing Heartbeat to Mana Pulse. Step... now."

Kai walked through the shimmering blue barrier as if it were air. Inside, the air smelled of ozone and ancient parchment. He followed the Dragon's Eye, which was picking up a faint trail of violet "dust" on the floor.

He turned a corner and froze.

The black-haired boy from class was there, floating three feet off the ground. He was holding a heavy, chained grimoire that was supposed to be sealed with Rank-S enchantments. The chains were glowing white-hot, melting under his touch.

The Revelation

"You're late, Little Drake," the boy said without turning around. His voice sounded like grinding stones. "I expected the System to bring you here ten minutes ago."

Kai dropped into a combat stance, his fists igniting with the Dragon System's golden heat. "Who are you? And how do you know about the System?"

The boy turned, his violet aura flaring so violently that the bookshelves groaned.

"The Dragon System is a spark from a dying sun," the boy said, his eyes glowing. "And I? I am the Shadow that eventually puts that sun out. My name is Malakai. But you can call me 'The End'."

[CRITICAL ALERT: OVERWHELMING PRESSURE]

[FORCED ACTIVATION: DRAGON SCALE (RANK 2)]

Gold scales rippled across Kai's forearms, clashing against the encroaching purple mist.

"Don't look so scared," Malakai laughed, closing the book with a thunderous thud. "I'm not here to kill you. Not yet. You're too small. A snack, not a meal. But tell me... does the System still have the 'Devour' function enabled? Or are you just a shiny toy?"

The Choice

[SYSTEM PROMPT]

[EMERGENCY MISSION: SURVIVE THE ENCOUNTER]

* [ATTACK]: High probability of instant death (98%).

* [NEGOTIATE]: Gain information on the Void.

* [DEVOUR]: Attempt to consume a portion of the Void's energy (High Risk/High Reward).

Kai looked at the floating shadow-user. He could feel the System trembling in his mind—not out of fear, but out of hunger.

"I'm not a toy," Kai said, his voice vibrating with draconic power. He chose the third option. "And I'm not a snack."

Kai lunged forward, not with a punch, but with his hand open, reaching directly for the violet aura.
