Chapter 1 - Chapter One: The Day Worlds Merge

Jasper gripped the steering wheel of his beat-up sedan, weaving through the morning rush on the highway. The alarm on his phone blared a reminder: Get to the office by 9 AM or kiss that promotion goodbye. At 28, he was just another cog in the corporate machine—data analyst by day, dreamer by night. Bills piled up, his apartment was a shoebox in the suburbs, and his social life consisted of takeout and binge-watching sci-fi flicks. "One day," he muttered, "something's gotta change."

The sky shifted first. One moment, it was the usual gray slog of a Monday; the next, it bled crimson, like someone had slashed open the heavens. Jasper slammed on the brakes, tires screeching as cars piled up around him. Horns blared, but everyone stared upward. Giant, ethereal letters materialized across the sky, glowing like neon fire:

EARTH PROTECTION PERIOD HAS ENDED.

"What the hell?" Jasper whispered, heart pounding. His phone exploded with notifications—texts from friends, news alerts, panicked screams from strangers. Before he could process it, the ground heaved. Asphalt cracked like eggshell, swallowing vehicles whole. Earthquakes ripped through the city, buildings groaning as steel beams twisted. Jasper's car lurched, dashboard lights flickering wildly.

Screams filled the air. People clutched loved ones, pets bolted in terror, birds plummeted from the sky. Jasper braced against the seat, eyes squeezed shut. This can't be real. It's a dream. Wake up!

Then, nothingness. A void swallowed him—no pain, no sound, just weightless drift.

When his eyes fluttered open, he sprawled on soft grass under an alien sky. Twin suns blazed overhead, casting golden light on rolling hills dotted with crystalline trees that hummed faintly. Thousands—no, millions—of people dotted the landscape, dazed and murmuring. Animals prowled nearby: deer with glowing antlers, birds with iridescent wings. The air hummed with energy, crisp and invigorating.

A translucent figure materialized before Jasper—a robed humanoid with glowing blue eyes, hovering serenely. "Welcome to Grandius," it intoned, voice echoing in every mind like a gentle thunder. "I am your Guide. All living things from Earth have been teleported here. Your world was under protection, shielded from the multiversal merge. That era ends today."

Jasper staggered to his feet, scanning the crowd. A woman nearby sobbed over a lost dog that now sported shimmering scales. "Merge? What does that mean?"

The Guide's form rippled. "Grandius is the nexus. All worlds will one day merge here, their essences blending in a grand convergence. Power awaits those who seize it. Evolve, grow stronger, or perish. In this realm, talent is everything."

It waved a hand, and holographic screens flickered to life above every newcomer. Jasper's materialized before him, pulsing with runes.

"Newcomers receive rewards post-merger," the Guide continued. "First: talent assessment. Talent dictates your path—measurable, quantifiable. Ranks from E (lowest) to EX (highest): E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, SSS, EX. All begin at Level 1, maxing at 100 through trials, combat, and growth. Higher talent accelerates evolution to superior species. Second: starter resources based on your draw."

The crowd buzzed. Some screens already glowed with results—gasps of joy, wails of despair. "Random draw," the Guide said. "Press to claim."

Jasper's screen read: Newcomer Draw: Talent Lottery. Pray well, mortal.

His pulse raced. This is insane. But if it's real... Visions flashed: power, escape from mediocrity, becoming something more. He jabbed the glowing button.

Talent Acquired: [REDACTED - CLASSIFIED]. Rank: ??? Level 1.

The Guide vanished. Jasper stared, a chill racing down his spine. Whatever this was, it felt... final.
