Chapter 2 - The Awakening (Part 1)

A Glimpse into Barry's World

The azure sky stretches endlessly, painted with soft, wispy clouds. The camera descends gracefully, panning down to reveal a sprawling, opulent bungalow – a testament to sheer wealth. It glides through an open window, past an elaborate chandelier, and into a boy's room, where Barry lies sprawled on his bed, utterly engrossed in a video game.

"Yo, hello!" Barry's voice pipes up, a casual confidence in his tone. "I'm Barry, and this, as you can see, is my super luxurious bungalow. Specifically, my fun room! Look around – posters of games, movies, superheroes... yeah, this is where the magic happens. My study and sleeping quarters? Totally separate, obviously. Being rich, you know, it's a different vibe. No shortage of anything here. My dad's a huge businessman, so I guess that makes me a rich kid. But hey, I never flaunt it. Never."

The scene shifts abruptly to a school hallway, a cacophony of adolescent voices. "So, what do you even think of yourselves, huh? Poor people like you could never have any of this! Hahahaha!" a smug voice jeers.

"Look at that guy, showing off again just because he's rich," a student mutters under their breath.

"Yeah, people like him shouldn't even be in our class," another concurs, disdain evident in their voice.

"Hey, hold on!" Barry interjects, looking directly at the 'storytelling voice' as if it's a person. "What are you telling all this for? Okay, fine, I admit it, sometimes I get a little dramatic. But I'm a genuinely nice guy! A good person!"

Storytelling Voice: "Oh really? What about that time you brought your new gaming phone and tablet to show off to your classmates? Or that time you offered to pay for an entire class trip, saying it was all on you, completely free?"

Barry's eyes dart nervously. "Hey, hey, those things just happen sometimes, right? Look, this is my introduction, okay? Get out of here, storytelling voice! I'll tell them about myself, and I'll even drop some knowledge about the current world."

The Present World: Heroes, Villains, and One Rich Kid's Dream

"Alright, so, about our world," Barry begins, settling into a more authoritative posture. "Back in the day, anyone with powers was basically considered a god or an angel. But before 1900, most of those people stayed hidden from us 'normals.' Then, after 1900, boom! Mutants, superpowered humans, they started popping up everywhere. Nowadays, it's totally normal in a lot of countries. Superheroes, villains – it's no big deal. To handle all of them, they've got special schools, colleges, even forces to stop the bad guys, and prisons, of course.

"And me, in the middle of all this? I always dreamed of meeting those superheroes, of becoming one of them. But what did fate do? Fate gave me a rich life, but absolutely no powers. Classic, right? Anyway, enough about me. I'm just an ordinary rich guy's son, living an ordinary life."

Storytelling Voice: "Ordinary life? What can you call 'ordinary' after becoming rich?"

Barry glares. "Hey! I told you to stop interrupting! Okay, fine. 'Rich life' is good. I mean, 'normal human life.' Happy now? Good. Now, seriously, get out of here. Okay, he's gone. So, where was I? Oh, right! I'm 19 years old now. And I'm currently having the best vacation ever, totally fresh mind, no stress.

"One day, while cycling around the city, I saw this one classmate of mine. Oh, wait, scratch that – my enemy. He's the son of a businessman on par with my dad, a guy named Steve. So, I see him setting up this whole workstation during vacation. He's got a place where he's doing computer stuff, like web development, with people he knows and some of our classmates. He totally does it to show off how 'responsible' he is.

"In our entire class, he's the only one who can even come close to competing with me. I usually ace everything, but he always manages to show up and act like he's more deserving of the top spot.

We usually can't stand each other, but here's the weird thing: when we actually do work together, putting our whole hearts into something, we're so good even the teachers get tired of praising us. Still, I can't stand him. Whatever. Gotta ignore that. So, I decided to go see what he was up to."

Steve's Secret Office

Barry hums a cheerful tune, cycling leisurely. "La la la la laa..." His eyes suddenly narrow. "Huh! It's Steve. What's he doing here every day during vacation? Today, I'm going to find out."

Barry dismounts, locks his cycle, and sneaks towards the building. "I'll just quietly head upstairs." He tiptoes up the stairs, peeking around corners. When he finally reaches the top, he's met with a surprising sight: Steve has set up what looks like a full-fledged office.

"What in the world is Steve doing with all these computers and people in an office-like setup?" Barry mutters to himself, his curiosity piqued. "He's not doing anything illegal, is he? That'd be sweet to catch him! But probably not. Ugh, fine. I guess I'll just go ask him myself. What's he even doing?"

The scene changed inside the office."So, how are things going with the current project?" Steve asked, his voice filled with a mix of excitement and urgency. "I just got a huge offer for a new website design. It's a big one, and they only gave us three days to complete it. We'll need to wrap up what we're doing now and jump on this new one right away."

A classmate, looking tired and overwhelmed, sighed. "Steve, we're already working as fast as we can. You keep piling on more work, and we're struggling to keep up. At this rate, we won't finish either project on time."

Steve's expression softened as he considered his classmate's words. "You're right," he admitted. "And honestly, I don't have the time to pitch in and help. What we really need is another person on the team—someone who's a fast learner and can get up to speed quickly."

Barry's unexpected knock startled Steve. "What are you doing here, Steve? Are you doing something illegal?" Barry's question hung in the air as Steve allowed him inside.

"You think I'd do something illegal like this?" Steve retorted, a hint of indignation in his voice.

Barry shrugged casually. "Who knows? People hide their true nature."

Steve explained, "I'm just making good use of my vacation time, doing some online web development."

"Hmm, so that's what you're up to. Nice, I guess," Barry replied.

Steve then turned the tables. "But what about you? How did you even get here?"

Barry stammered, "Uh, you could say I come here every day for cycling and just roaming around. Sometimes I'd notice you coming to this building, so I just followed you to see what you were doing."

"That's it?" Steve asked, exasperated. "If you don't have anything important to do here, then leave the office."

"Nah, I'm not taking orders from you," Barry scoffed.

"Fine," Steve conceded, "If you're staying, just don't interrupt our work."

"I'll make sure I'm not a problem," Barry promised.

"Good. Also, I'm leaving now, so don't do anything stupid behind my back."

"You think I'm a child? Don't order me around like that!" Barry shot back.

"Okay, I won't. I'm going now, everyone," Steve said, and with that, he departed.

Barry remained in the office for five hours before finally heading home. Later, Steve returned, wanting to check on the progress of the work. To his surprise, he found everyone resting.

"Why are you all resting? We have so much work to do!" Steve exclaimed.

The manager smiled. "Barry finished three days' worth of work in just four hours, with ease."

"What? He did it in four hours? That's impressive, but why?" Steve asked, stunned.

The manager explained, "For the first hour, he just sat there watching us. Then he said he was getting bored and asked if he could help. We weren't sure how good he was at web development, so we gave him a three-day task, thinking we could just redo it if needed. But he finished it incredibly fast and perfectly. We had no idea he was so skilled with computers."

"Okay," Steve mused, "Maybe he's not so bad after all."

A Sudden Turn of Events

The next day, Barry was getting ready for a party his father had been invited to. They left their house around 5:00 AM and arrived at the party venue at approximately 6:00 PM. Barry's mind raced, trying to figure out how he could be the center of attention.

As he entered, he noticed the room was filled with high-profile individuals. Before he could execute any of his plans, his father stopped him. "Don't even think about doing anything reckless," his father warned.

"Fine, I won't," Barry grumbled, his excitement and plans dissolving instantly. He found himself listening to the conversations of high-status adults and their children, and boredom quickly set in. After somehow enduring three hours, he thought, "I can't stay here doing nothing. Maybe I should just get some fresh air."

While searching for a quiet spot, he spotted his old friend, Rishika, and a nearby balcony. "Hey, long time no see!" Barry called out to her.

"You too!" Rishika replied.

"Rishika, would you mind if we talked on that balcony?" Barry asked.

"No, I don't mind," she agreed, and they headed to the balcony.

"School's fine, but I wouldn't say my vacation is going nicely," Rishika confessed.

"Why not?" Barry asked.

"It's boring staying in a big house alone with no one to play or talk to," she explained.

"Really? I thought there would be someone, like your mom or the housemaid. You could talk to them," Barry suggested.

"That's easy for you to say," Rishika sighed. "Your father isn't strict. He doesn't stop you from going out or talking to 'normal people' like maids."

"What a dad you got," Barry commented, "who cares about you but restricts so many things."

"Yeah, Barry, I can't do anything about it," Rishika admitted. "How do you spend your time?"

Suddenly, Rishika's father called out to her. "Yes, I'm coming!" she replied. Then, turning to Barry, she said, "Okay, Barry, my father's calling. I'm going now. Bye."

"Okay, bye," Barry said as Rishika left him alone once more.

Barry, "Rishika is a very nice person but many people fear her because of her powers. She has the power to control other people. Because of that she never gets to play with friends and she never got a normal life. But I always like people with superpowers so I and my some friends played with her when we were childrens. I don't get those people who fear someone without knowing then. Well, I cannot blame them."

"Alright, now I should get some fresh air," Barry muttered. As he stepped outside, he noticed the ominous weather—dark, heavy clouds gathering in the sky. "Even the weather isn't in a good mood like me," he thought.

More clouds converged, and then the entire sky was engulfed in a blinding flash of light. A bolt of lightning struck Barry directly. His upper clothes were slightly burnt, and he lost consciousness.

Chaos erupted as everyone rushed to see what had happened. They found Barry lying on the ground. His parents quickly scooped him up and rushed him to the nearest hospital.

At the hospital, doctors hurried him into the ICU. They quickly examined his body, finding no external harm, but his heart had stopped beating. They immediately brought out the heart-restoring machine and began to try and restart his heart. They powered up the machine, but the monitor showed his pulse rapidly dropping.

"Increase the voltage!" the head doctor ordered. They tried their best. "Increase the voltage again!" the head doctor urged. He noticed that each time they increased the voltage, Barry's pulse began to restore itself. After three or four attempts, increasing the voltage each time, the head doctor finally used the maximum voltage.

Barry's heart successfully restarted. A wave of relief washed over the medical team as they informed Barry's parents that he was no longer in danger.
