Chapter 2 - When the Rings Chose Their Owners

That night did not feel normal even though the world kept moving like nothing had changed. Cars still passed through the streets and people stayed busy in their own lives but something unseen had already begun. The seven streaks of light that had escaped the forest were now moving across the sky, too fast for anyone to clearly notice, some people thought they saw shooting stars while others ignored it completely but those lights were not random. They were searching.

In a quiet room Elisa Jung sat near her window looking outside at the night sky, she could not explain it but her heart felt restless as if something was about to happen. She had always trusted her instincts and right now they were telling her that this night was different. Suddenly a flash of light moved toward her and before she could react it entered through the window and stopped right in front of her.

It was a ring. Floating in the air and glowing softly.

Elisa slowly stood up and looked at it without fear, something about it felt familiar even though she had never seen it before. The ring moved closer and without any force it slipped onto her finger. The moment it touched her skin a sudden wave of energy rushed through her body, her breath stopped for a second but she did not pull back. The ring tightened slightly and locked itself in place as if it had finally found where it belonged.

In another part of the city Jenny Jennifer was with her friends when a bright light appeared out of nowhere, the people around her stepped back in shock but the ring moved only toward Jenny. It circled around her once and then slid onto her finger. She laughed nervously at first and tried to take it off but it did not move at all, no matter how hard she tried it stayed there.

Zoe Forger was walking alone when her ring appeared, she noticed the light before it reached her and stopped. She watched it carefully and for a moment she hesitated but then she slowly raised her hand. The ring slipped onto her finger and a calm but powerful feeling spread through her body. She looked at it quietly and understood that something had changed.

Stebin Ben was at a playground when his ring came, at first he thought someone had thrown something glowing toward him but when it stopped in the air he realized it was not normal. Before he could react the ring locked onto his finger. He tried shaking it off but it did not move, instead he felt a strange strength building inside him.

Kevin Matthew was sitting in his room studying when the light appeared, it filled the room and caught his attention immediately. He stood up in confusion but the ring moved toward him and attached itself to his hand before he could step back. He stared at it and tried to remove it but it refused to leave, his heart started beating faster as he realized this was something beyond logic.

Louis Kang was outside when his moment came, the ring moved through the air like it knew exactly where to go. It did not slow down or stop for anyone else and in a single smooth motion it reached him and locked onto his finger. He looked around in shock but no one else seemed to understand what had just happened.

Jake Andres was the last one, he was resting when the light entered his room, at first he thought he was dreaming but the moment the ring touched his hand he felt a sudden jolt of energy. He sat up immediately and stared at it. He tried to pull it off but it stayed firm as if it was never meant to leave.

Seven different people in seven different places all at the same time. Each of them tried to remove the ring and each of them failed. The rings had made their choice and they were not going back.

Far away the empty black box remained silent in the forest but the energy it released had already done its work. A connection had been formed and a story had begun that none of them could escape. And somewhere in the darkness something had felt that change. Something that had been waiting for a very long time.
