Chapter 43 - Sir Maelor

Morning came in slow and dreadful, especially for Prince Draven who couldn't sleep a wink. He spent the whole night thinking of what history is between Aurelian and the Knight that's being assigned. He could've asked his husband directly but he chose not to. Aurelian needed rest and not questions that would keep him awake. Dawn had finally crept up sparing him of the anxiety.

Drave rose from bed and dragged himself into the bathhouse. Once he bathed, he changed into his training suit and left the chambers. The training field only serves as a moment's haven. Especially with its familiar noise of swords clanging and the thick smell of body sweats. Draven picks up a sword and starts training as diligently as ever but his movements are more sharp and intense. One of the junior knights actually piss himself on the field after seeing how the Crown Prince is training as if to..kill.

By day break, the palace has started bustling with its usual routine. Draven finishes training then he goes the the bath house for a quick shower and to change into his Royal attire. One of the servants approaches him once he's out. "Your highness, you have been summoned to the throne room by His majesty", the servant doesn't wait for a reply before bowing and leaving. Draven's brain short circuited. Is SIR MAELOR VEYNE here already? Draven's feet moves without stopping until he gets to the throne room. His gaze sweeps over the room…His father c his mother, Aurelian and….Maelor. The brown skinned knight stood tall, almost as tall as Draven himself. Broad shouldered and toned muscles from years of battle. His dark hair falls in curly wave over his face and shoulders, quite long. Draven takes in all these details the way a man might take in an enemy, he also takes in the way Maelor is standing comfortably at Aurelian side. "So this is the Knight they sent?" Draven asks making no attempt to hide the contempt im his tone. "Quite unnecessary if you ask me", he added. "Unnecessary? Yet your knights failed to protect Aurelian", Maelor retorts. "Aurelian? It's Prince Aurelian, Royal consort, My husband…don't forget your place, you're just here to protect which I am more than capable of", Draven counters. Sir Maelor's jaw tightened but he didn't push the matter further. Instead he dropped on one knee in front of Aurelian, "I, Maelor Veyne, vow to protect you with my life and fulfill my duties as your personal knight", he swears and Aurelian quickly pulled him up. "There's no need for that… I trust you". Aurelian words cut through Draven…trust? He trusted this unknown knight? What exactly happened between these two? "Nonsense! You can't trust a man of unknown origin" Draven protests. "Maelor isn't a stranger, he was my…" "Prince Aurelian perhaps we should send message back to the Moonveil palace that I have arrived and resumed my duties", Maelor cuts Aurelian's explanation short. "Let us all calm down, sending word back to Moonveil like Sir Maelor suggested isn't a bad idea for a start", king Malric says trying to dissolve the tension. "Yes, your majesty", Aurelian and Maelor chorused then they exchanged a look making Aurelian giggle quietly into his sleeve. Draven felt a wave of irritation and annoyance, not at Aurelian's laugh, no never that but at Maelor and the way he looked at Aurelian. "Would you still be able to look at my husband if you had no eyes?" "Draven!" His mother exclaimed, "I am merely asking a question, mother" Draven replied and Maelor decided to humor him, "if I had no eyes then I'd hear him instead" "and no ears?" "Then I'd smell him" "if you don't have a nose then what?" "Then I'd feel him", Maelor answers smoothly, making Draven's nose flare, "feel? Who do you think you are to touch my husband?" Aurelian realizes it's getting out of hand and quickly stand to Draven pulling him away. The king shared an amused look with his wife at their son's display. "Draven, what was that about?" Aurelian asks with a sigh once they were outside the throne room. "Oh? So my husband finally notices me? How convenient", Draven scoffs looking away. Aurelian's eyes widen a fraction before he chuckles, "what's so funny?" Draven asks, "You're jealous? Of Maelor?" Aurelian questions suppressing a laugh. "I'm not, he was just being too comfortable with you", Draven replies narrowing his eyes at Aurelian. "Aurelian continued laughing, "You were jealous!" "So what if I was? I'm your husband and you didn't look at me once while that man was there!" Draven retorts, his brow pulling, no longer hiding the fact that he was annoyed. "Oh Draven, Maelor is my knight now, you'll have to get used to him", Aurelian says after a while. "I know", Draven agrees running a hand through his hair, "but I still have a question…what is your history with Maelor?"
