In a small village of West Bengal lived a girl named Sohini. Surrounded by green paddy fields, muddy roads, and tall palm trees by the river—this was her world. But in Sohini's eyes, there was a dream of a much bigger world.
From childhood, she was very good at studies. Her teachers often said, "This girl will achieve something great one day." But her family was not financially stable. Her father was a daily wage laborer, and her mother managed the household.
There were days when they didn't even have enough food to eat. Still, Sohini never gave up her studies. At night, when there was no electricity in the village, she studied under the dim light of a kerosene lamp.
One day in school, the teacher asked,
"What do you all want to become in the future?"
Everyone gave different answers—some said police, some said teacher.
After a moment of silence, Sohini said,
"I want to become a scientist."
Many students laughed.
"A village girl becoming a scientist? That's impossible!"
But Sohini didn't say anything. She silently made a promise to herself—
"I will prove that dreams have no limits."
The Beginning of Struggles
Before her secondary exams, a big storm hit Sohini's life. Her father fell seriously ill, and suddenly the responsibility of the family came upon her shoulders.
Her mother said,
"Stop studying and start working, or we won't survive."
Tears filled Sohini's eyes. But she knew that if she gave up now, all her dreams would end.
At that time, one of her school teachers, Mrinal Sir, came forward. He visited her home and convinced her mother—
"Let her study. One day, she will change your life."
After much persuasion, her mother agreed.
The Path of Light
Sohini started studying again with new determination. She managed household work during the day and studied at night.
She passed her secondary exams with excellent results and chose science in higher secondary. Despite all the struggles, she never lost focus.
She got a chance to study in a reputed college in Kolkata. Leaving her village was difficult, but her dreams gave her the courage.
City life was completely different. New people, new environment—everything felt unfamiliar. At first, she struggled a lot, but slowly she adapted.
Reaching Her Dream
In college, Sohini worked tirelessly. Her goal was to do research in science.
One day, a professor was very impressed by her project. He said,
"You have the potential to work in a big research lab."
Tears of joy filled Sohini's eyes. Her hard work was finally starting to pay off.
After a few years, she truly became a researcher. Her work gained recognition both nationally and internationally.
Returning Home
Despite all her success, Sohini never forgot her village. One day, she returned to that small village.
At the village school, she told the children,
"You are not small, and your dreams are not small either. With belief and hard work, everything is possible."
The same village that once laughed at her was now proud of her.
Her mother, with tears in her eyes, said,
"You have truly made us proud."
Sohini smiled gently and said,
"The path was not easy, but it was never impossible."
