Chapter 1 - Heibon na Kōkōsei: Reborn as the Strongest in Another World

Chapter 1 — The Day Everything Changed

Haruto Mizuki had always considered himself ordinary. Not talented, not particularly smart, not even remarkable. Every day was the same: wake up, drag himself through school, return home, play video games, sleep. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. The monotony was a kind of silent torture.

Another mundane morning… he thought as he trudged down the street, bag slung lazily over one shoulder.

"Haruto! Move it or we'll be late!" Taro's voice echoed, bouncing across the street like a persistent alarm clock.

"Coming, coming!" Haruto called back, though in his mind he groaned. Seriously, can this kid ever shut up for five seconds?

The streets were bustling with people students rushing, merchants shouting, the clatter of wheels on stone. Haruto hated the mornings, the chaos, the noise. But most of all, he hated being late. So, he bolted, thinking of breakfast, school, and maybe getting a few hours of gaming in later.

Then, everything froze.

Wait… what…?

A truck barreled down the street, too fast to react to. White light. Pain. Darkness.

Haruto awoke in a place unlike anything he had ever seen.

Sunlight filtered through tall, ancient trees, painting the forest floor with gold and green patches. The air was crisp, carrying a faint scent of wildflowers, moss, and something… magical. A soft breeze whispered past him, ruffling his hair. He sat up slowly, taking it all in.

"W-where… am I?" he muttered.

Then, in his head, came a calm, mechanical voice.

[Reincarnation Successful]

[Welcome, Haruto Mizuki]

[Unique Skill Granted: Aether Core]

Haruto froze. …A system? Figures.

He pinched the bridge of his nose. Alright… I'll call you Sage. That's your name. From now on, you're Sage. Don't mess this up.

[New Skill Acquired: Physical Enhancement Lv.1]

Well, Sage… officially part of the team now. Let's see what you can do.

The forest was alive with movement. Leaves fluttered. Branches swayed. And then, a low growl echoed through the trees.

Two glowing red eyes appeared in the underbrush. A wolf-like creature, larger than any ordinary wolf, leapt at Haruto with teeth bared.

Instinct took over. Haruto rolled sideways, narrowly avoiding the bite, and countered with a swift punch that sent the monster crashing into a tree. It vanished in a flash of light.

[Beast Defeated Experience +10]

[New Skill Acquired: Beast Strength Lv.1]

[Physical Stats Increased Strength +5, Agility +3]

Haruto grinned, feeling a thrill run through his body. Wow… Sage… you weren't kidding. This is insane.

He laughed aloud. I've never felt this alive… not in a game, not in real life. This… this is amazing.

Alright, Sage. Let's see how far we can push this.

Hours passed as Haruto explored. He leapt across cliffs, ran along streams, tested his newfound strength and agility, and even tried climbing trees for fun. Each jump, each movement felt effortless.

Hah… okay, Sage. You might actually make this fun. Who knew being dead could feel this alive?

Suddenly, a soft, tentative voice drifted from a clearing.

"…Hello?"

Haruto froze. There, bathed in the golden glow of the forest, stood a girl with silver hair glimmering under the sun, wide, frightened eyes, and a hesitant stance.

"…Uh… hey?" he said, cautious. "Are you okay?"

She blinked, her voice barely above a whisper. "…Where am I?"

"Safe," Haruto reassured her. "You're not in danger."

"I… I'm Akari Hoshizora," she said.

"Haruto Mizuki," he replied, offering a small smile.

[New Companion Detected Akari Hoshizora]

[Relationship Points Initialized: 5/100]

Looks like I've got company… Hopefully she's useful. Or at least… won't slow me down too much. Haruto thought with a smirk.

Akari looked around, the forest unfamiliar to her as well. "I… I don't know how I got here…" she admitted.

"Neither do I," Haruto said, scratching the back of his head. "But looks like we're stuck together. Don't worry, I've got a system in my head… named Sage."

Yeah, she's not hearing Sage. Only me. Classic isekai privilege.

The rest of the day was spent exploring the forest together. Haruto showed Akari the basics: how to jump further than normal, how to dodge quickly, and a few minor techniques he had picked up instinctively.

[Exploration Started Nearby Forest Detected]

[Reward: Knowledge +5]

Akari tilted her head, watching him with wide eyes. "You… seem different. Stronger. How did you survive out here?"

"I guess… luck. Or maybe this world picked me for something special," Haruto said with a grin.

Right, Sage? This is only the beginning. You're going to be useful for a long time.

[Hint: Growth Potential Infinite]

Night fell, and the forest transformed under a blanket of stars. Fireflies danced in the clearing where they had set up a small campfire. Haruto leaned back against a tree, staring up at the glittering sky.

"So… what now?" Akari asked softly, voice tinged with worry and curiosity.

"Now?" Haruto said, stretching. "Now we survive. Explore. Get stronger. Learn about this world. And maybe, just maybe… become the strongest in it."

[Adventure Continues Infinite Possibilities Detected]

Haruto's eyes shone with anticipation.  Sage, buckle up. This world is about to get interesting.
