Chapter 4 - Hat-Trick Goals

Goal.

1–2.

This time, the reaction was louder. Teammates rushed toward him, disbelief turning into excitement.

Alejandro allowed himself a faint smile."He's not repeating… he's evolving."

The pressure now shifted entirely onto the main team. Their passes became quicker, but also more hurried. Their structure began to loosen as they pushed forward in search of an equalizer.

Jae, however, remained composed.

He drifted across the field, reading the game, waiting.

Then came the moment.

A misplaced pass in midfield.

For a fraction of a second, no one reacted.

Except Jae.

He anticipated the error before it happened, stepping in to intercept cleanly. Without hesitation, he drove forward, accelerating into open space.

Sen chased desperately from behind, but Jae kept the ball just out of reach with precise touches. Ahead, a defender stepped up to block his path.

Jae slowed.

The defender hesitated.

That hesitation was everything.

A sudden stop-and-go move—Wang Chen froze the defender, then burst past him with explosive acceleration.

Now he was through again.

The goalkeeper, having been beaten twice, hesitated this time, unsure whether to charge or hold position.

That split-second uncertainty sealed it.

Jae struck the ball cleanly, driving it with power and accuracy into the corner of the net.

Goal.-

1–3.

A hat-trick.

The field erupted—not just in celebration, but in recognition. This wasn't luck. This wasn't coincidence. This was dominance.

Ronan ran toward him, laughing in disbelief, while Carlos Mendez raised his hand in acknowledgment. Even players from the main team stood still, absorbing what they had just witnessed.

On the sideline, Coach Magritte remained composed, but his expression had changed. Alejandro, standing beside him, spoke quietly,"This is a player who doesn't wait for the game… he takes it."

The final whistle blew, confirming the unexpected result.

1–3.

The substitute team had defeated the main team.

Inside the conference room, the atmosphere was different from usual. There was no need to explain what had happened—everyone had seen it.

When Coach Ruben finally addressed Jae, his words were measured but clear.

"You changed the game. But remember—consistency is what defines a player, not one performance."

Jae nodded, understanding the weight behind those words.

Then came the squad announcement.

Names were called one by one.

"Sen."

A pause.

"…Jae."

This time, there was no disbelief.

Only confirmation.

As the session ended and players began to leave, Jae lingered for a moment, looking back at the pitch. The echoes of the match still lingered in his mind—the movements, the decisions, the goals.

Three goals.

Three statements.

And for the first time, it felt like he wasn't chasing a place anymore.

He had claimed it.
