The scouting party moved swiftly through the dense, bioluminescent undergrowth, guided by the faint beams of their military flashlights and the towering pillar of smoke in the distance. The forest was eerily quiet, the usual ambient hum of insects completely silenced by the violent impact of the escape pod.
Aleksander led the vanguard, his Fey senses cast wide into the dark.
Suddenly, he stopped dead in his tracks. His head snapped toward the eastern tree line. He didn't just hear the rustle of leaves; he felt the heavy, synchronized thud of massive paws tearing into the earth. The scent of wet fur and rotting meat hit his senses a split second later.
"Move!" Aleksander roared, his voice echoing with absolute authority. "Run! Now!"
Panic instantly seized the group. Finn, Jasper, and Octavia didn't hesitate, breaking into a dead sprint toward the safety of a rocky outcrop ahead.
But Aleksander didn't run. He stood his ground, planting his boots firmly into the soil as the brush ahead of them exploded.
Bursting from the shadows were beasts straight out of a nightmare. They were mutated wolves, easily twice the size of anything found in pre-war history textbooks.
Their central snouts were heavily wrinkled, pushed upward into tight, aggressive folds with thick, dark whiskers protruding from black noses. Piercing, golden-orange eyes with narrow, dark pupils locked onto the teenagers with a terrifying, predatory glare. As they snarled, their jaws pulled wide to reveal an array of elongated, razor-sharp canine teeth, set in slick, dark red gums.
Covered in coarse, shaggy black fur that formed a thick, matted ruff around their massive necks, they possessed incredibly wide, powerful front shoulders and thick, muscular legs that propelled them forward with lethal speed.
Knowing a simple blade wouldn't stop a pack of this magnitude, Aleksander dropped his disguise.
He pushed back his sleeves, and with a subtle exertion of will, the magical glamour hiding his greatest weapons completely dissolved. Adorning his forearms were the Ten Rings—sturdy, iron bands worn five on each arm to evenly distribute his strength enhancement. They appeared to be forged from a dark, dense metal with a rough, centuries-old texture. Intricate carvings and ancient symbols were etched deeply into their surfaces.
As Aleksander channeled his power, the engravings ignited. A brilliant, dim light of pulsating blue and purple energy flared to life, the magical resonance bleeding into his very skin and illuminating the veins in his arms with a toxic, beautiful glow.
The alpha wolf lunged, a massive wall of muscle and teeth flying directly at Aleksander's throat.
Aleksander didn't flinch. He threw a single, devastating punch. The kinetic impact of the rings met the wolf mid-air with a sickening crack. The beast was launched several meters backward, its skull shattered, dying instantly before it even hit the forest floor.
Moving with blinding, superhuman speed, Aleksander sidestepped the second wolf. He grabbed it by its thick mane, leveraging the immense, magical strength of the rings, and effortlessly launched the massive creature across the clearing like a ragdoll.
A third beast snapped at his flank. Aleksander spun, slamming his glowing forearm into its ribs. The force of the blow lifted the wolf off its feet, hurling it violently through the air into a fourth wolf. The two beasts collided with a massive, ancient oak tree with incredible, bone-shattering force, falling into a heap of motionless black fur.
But the pack was relentless. Three more wolves bypassed Aleksander entirely, their golden-orange eyes locked onto the retreating backs of the delinquents.
Aleksander's eyes blazed with unyielding determination. He positioned his arms sharply downward. The heavy iron rings slid rapidly down his forearms, clanking together at his wrists.
With a surge of intense purple and blue light, the rings extended outward, connecting via a crackling, segmented whip of pure magical energy.
Aleksander lashed out. The glowing energy chain wrapped violently around the hind leg of the leading wolf just before it could close its jaws around a fleeing Jasper. With a raw, guttural shout, Aleksander planted his feet, yanked the whip backward, and hurled the bound, thrashing beast directly into the remaining two wolves, sending them all crashing violently into the heavy underbrush.
In the sheer chaos of the ambush, Finn, Jasper, and Octavia had kept their heads down, running blindly for their lives.
But three people had stopped. Three people had turned around, their flashlights dropping slightly as they witnessed the impossible.
Bellamy stood frozen, his hand gripping his metal blade so tightly his knuckles were entirely white. His tactical mind completely short-circuited. He had expected Aleksander to be a capable fighter, maybe even a lethal one. But watching the Alpha Station prodigy drop glowing, ancient weapons from thin air and punch a mutated monster through a tree broke every law of reality he knew. It was terrifying, and yet, an undeniable wave of awe washed over him—this was the firepower they needed.
Clarke stared in absolute, unblinking shock. Her scientific, logical brain was frantically trying to process the glowing blue and purple energy pulsing through Aleksander's veins. It defied physics. It defied biology. The rings, the segmented whip of light, the sheer, impossible force—it shattered her entire understanding of the universe in a matter of seconds.
Monty, peering from behind the rocky outcrop, just let his jaw hang open. The absolute terror of the mutated wolves was momentarily eclipsed by pure, unadulterated geeky disbelief. He lowered his flashlight, staring at the glowing energy whip retracting back into solid metal bands on Aleksander's arms.
"Holy shit," Monty breathed, perfectly summarizing the shattered reality of the leadership.
The heavy iron rings slid rapidly back up Aleksander's forearms, the brilliant blue and purple energy fading until they were once again dormant, unassuming bands of dark metal. The mutated wolves lay dead in the brush, their blood sinking into the damp earth.
Aleksander turned, his breathing perfectly steady. His dark eyes locked onto Bellamy, Clarke, and Monty, who were still staring at him in absolute, paralyzed shock.
Aleksander didn't give them time to process the impossible. The forest was still dangerous. He stepped forward, lowering his voice to a sharp, commanding whisper that cut straight through their disbelief.
"Not now. Keep moving," Aleksander ordered, holding their gaze with absolute authority. "I will explain everything when we are safe."
Swallowing hard, Bellamy gave a slow, rigid nod. Clarke and Monty, still completely overwhelmed, mirrored the gesture. Behind them, Octavia—who already knew the terrifying truth of what he was—simply gave Aleksander a firm, knowing nod of solidarity.
While Jasper and Finn were oblivious to it, since both were running and hiding at the time.
"Move," Aleksander commanded, taking the lead once again.
They pushed through the final stretch of dense underbrush and crested a small ridge. Below them, sitting at the end of a long, scorched trench of uprooted earth and shattered trees, was the escape pod. It was a battered, century-old relic, hissing with steam and glowing with residual heat.
They scrambled down the embankment. The heavy outer hatch was warped from the reentry friction. Bellamy and Aleksander grabbed the edges of the burning metal, their muscles straining as they violently wrenched the door open.
Inside the claustrophobic, smoke-filled cabin, Raven Reyes was slumped over the control yoke.
"Get her out!" Clarke yelled, her medical instincts overriding her shock.
Clarke and Octavia reached into the pod, grabbing the straps of the heavy EVA spacesuit. Together, they hauled the unconscious zero-G mechanic out of the crushed cockpit and laid her gently on the soft, ash-covered earth.
A moment later, Raven groaned. Her eyelids fluttered open, disoriented and blinded by the beams of their flashlights. She reached up with heavy, gloved hands, fumbling with the locking mechanism of her cracked helmet.
Clarke helped her unlatch it, pulling the heavy helmet free to reveal the severe, bleeding laceration on the side of Raven's temple.
Raven blinked, her vision slowly clearing. She looked past Clarke, past the flashlights, and up into the towering, bioluminescent canopy of the ancient forest. A soft, cool drop of water hit her cheek. Then another.
Ignoring the pain in her head, Raven slowly pushed herself up. She stumbled slightly, her boots sinking into the actual, living dirt for the first time in her life. She looked down at her hands, feeling the cool mist settling over her skin. She looked up, turning in a slow, awe-struck circle as a gentle drizzle began to fall through the trees.
"Is this..." Raven whispered, a massive, disbelieving smile breaking across her face as she twirled slightly in the light shower. "Is it raining?"
Clarke couldn't help the smile that spread across her own face. The sheer, unadulterated wonder of seeing someone experience Earth for the very first time briefly washed away the trauma of the night.
"Yeah," Clarke nodded softly. "Welcome to Earth."
"Raven?"
The breathless, desperate voice broke the quiet moment.
Finn pushed his way violently through the brush, sprinting into the clearing. He had hung back during the wolf ambush, but the second his eyes landed on the girl in the spacesuit, he completely froze.
Raven spun around. Her eyes lit up. "Finn!"
She ran toward him, practically throwing herself into his arms. Finn caught her, burying his hands in her hair as he pulled her in and kissed her passionately, completely oblivious to the rest of the group watching them.
The smile instantly fell from Clarke's face, replaced by a sharp, stinging shock. Bellamy and Monty exchanged highly confused glances. For the past week, Finn had shadowed Clarke endlessly, flirting with her, protecting her, and trying to act like her dedicated romantic anchor. To see him suddenly kissing a girl from the Ark was completely jarring to the rest of the delinquents.
But standing by the edge of the crater, Aleksander wasn't surprised in the slightest.
He watched the reunion with cold, clinical detachment. His Fey senses had already dissected Finn Collins days ago. Through passive psychic impressions and the boy's reckless behavior, Aleksander had seen fragments of the mechanic with the ponytail in Finn's memories long before the pod ever crashed.
Aleksander saw Finn exactly for what he was. It wasn't romance; it was a deeply toxic case of severe codependency.
Finn couldn't stand on his own. He possessed massive attachment issues and a desperate, psychological need to tether himself to a strong female figure to validate his own existence. When he thought Raven was completely out of reach, he had immediately tried to latch his emotional anchors onto Clarke.
He wasn't a romantic hero. He was a parasite looking for a host. And Aleksander knew that kind of volatility would only bring more chaos to the pack.
