Episode 20 — The Emperor's Proposal
The nobles slowly returned to their discussions, but the Emperor continued watching Lucas de Hein carefully.
It was rare for Lucas to show interest in anything related to the court.
"Lucas," the Emperor said calmly.
Lucas looked toward the throne again.
"Yes, Your Majesty."
The Emperor rested his hand on the arm of the throne.
"You seemed quite interested in June."
A few nobles quietly listened.
Lucas answered without hesitation.
"She is unusual."
The Emperor smiled slightly.
"That is one way to describe her."
He leaned forward a little.
"You know she holds the title Duke of the Southern Pearls."
Lucas nodded once.
"Yes."
The Emperor continued.
"The southern territories are important to the empire… but they also have many problems."
Rebellious nobles.
Bandits.
Political tension.
The Emperor's voice became more serious.
"June handles most of those matters herself."
Lucas remained silent, listening.
Then the Emperor added something unexpected.
"Perhaps you should work with her."
Several nobles immediately looked shocked.
The Master of the Magical Tower working with the Imperial Princess?
Lucas's silver eyes narrowed slightly.
"For what purpose?"
The Emperor answered calmly.
"To help stabilize the southern region."
Lucas thought for a moment.
The image of June in the market, standing on a defeated bandit and calling the place her land, returned to his mind.
Then he remembered her mischievous smile in the hall.
"…I see."
Lucas finally replied.
"I would like to observe her abilities further."
The Emperor smiled faintly.
"Good."
He leaned back again.
"I will arrange another meeting for the two of you."
