Chapter 3 - THE BLACK CAR - Part 3

Her heart froze, the sound unmistakable now—a car engine idling softly behind her. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up as she slowly turned her head. There it was.

The sleek black luxury car had appeared again, gliding slowly into the narrow street behind her, its tinted windows dark and unreadable in the dim light. It hadn't been there just a moment ago, but now it followed her at a cautious distance, the soft hum of the engine like a predator stalking its prey.

Lena's pulse quickened, panic flooding her veins. She had convinced herself it wouldn't show tonight, that maybe it had all been in her head. But there it was, silent and menacing, just like before.

Her breath hitched, and without thinking, she quickened her pace. The narrow street seemed to stretch on forever now, the exit to the main road feeling impossibly far away. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, the anxiety building with every step she took.

The car followed, maintaining its slow, deliberate speed. Lena glanced over her shoulder again, her heart racing faster now. It was getting closer.

Her mind raced with options. Should she run? Call someone? But what if they were waiting for her to panic, to make a mistake? What if they were waiting for the moment she turned a corner and they could block her in?

Lena gripped her phone tightly in her hand, ready to dial Zoe, but her fingers felt clumsy, her mind a blur of panic. She took a shaky breath, forcing herself to stay calm. Maybe if she could reach the end of the street—where the lights were brighter, where there might be more people—she could lose them.

Her feet carried her faster now, her shoes tapping hard against the pavement as she practically jogged down the narrow road. The car's engine purred softly behind her, steady and patient, as if it knew she had nowhere to go.

The end of the street was just ahead. She could see the brighter lights of the main road peeking through the buildings. Just a few more steps. Just a little further.

But as she moved, the car's engine suddenly grew louder, the sound of tires crunching over the asphalt as it picked up speed. Lena's breath caught in her throat, and instinctively, she broke into a sprint, her legs pumping as fast as they could carry her.

The car sped up, the headlights brighter now, casting long shadows in front of her. She could hear it gaining on her, the engine roaring louder, closer.

Lena's heart pounded in her ears as she reached the end of the street, her breath coming in short, panicked gasps. She darted around the corner, her feet barely touching the ground as she raced toward the main road, hoping, praying, that she could lose them in the bustle of the city.

But when she glanced back, the black car was already rounding the corner behind her, relentless.

Lena's stomach twisted in fear as she ran faster, pushing herself harder, her only thought to get away.

Lena's breath came in ragged gasps as she pushed herself harder, her legs burning as she sprinted toward the main road. The black car's engine roared behind her, getting closer with each second, and panic gripped her chest like a vice. She was almost there, just a few more steps, and she could disappear into the flow of late-night traffic, into the safety of people.

But then, with terrifying speed, the car surged forward, its tires screeching against the pavement as it swerved in front of her, blocking her path. Lena skidded to a stop, her heart hammering in her chest as she realized there was nowhere to go. The sleek black car sat menacingly in front of her, its engine still rumbling, and the world around her felt unnaturally still.

For a moment, time seemed to freeze. Lena's mind scrambled for a way out, but before she could even turn to run in the opposite direction, the driver's side door opened with a sharp click.

A man in black stepped out, his figure towering and imposing. He was dressed like a bodyguard, all in black from his tailored suit to the leather gloves on his hands, his face set in a cold, expressionless mask. His eyes locked onto Lena, and she instinctively took a step back, her pulse racing in terror.

Before she could react, he moved toward her with swift, purposeful strides, closing the distance between them in seconds. Lena tried to turn, to run, but her body felt frozen with fear. She barely managed to take two steps before she felt a strong hand grip her arm, yanking her back with startling force.

"No!" Lena screamed, thrashing against the man's iron-like grip, but he didn't even flinch. His hold on her tightened, and with a smooth, practiced motion, he pushed her toward the back of the car, his gloved hand clamped firmly over her arm.

Her heart pounded in her chest as she struggled against him, her breath coming in panicked gasps. "Let me go! Please!" she cried, her voice trembling with fear, but the man didn't respond. He didn't even acknowledge her protests.

With a rough shove, he forced her toward the open backseat door, the dark interior of the car yawning before her like a trap. Lena twisted in his grip, her body flailing as she tried to break free, but he was too strong. In one swift motion, he pushed her into the backseat, her body hitting the plush leather with a thud.

The door slammed shut behind her with a final, terrifying click.

Lena scrambled to sit up, her mind racing, her heart pounding so loudly it drowned out everything else. She reached for the door handle, desperately pulling at it, but it wouldn't budge. It was locked, trapping her inside. Panic surged through her veins as she realized she had nowhere to go.

The man got back into the driver's seat without a word, his expression still unreadable, his movements calm and controlled as though this was just another day for him. He didn't even glance back at her.

As the car began to move, the engine's soft hum filling the silence, Lena's chest tightened with fear. She was trapped. She had no idea where they were taking her, but she knew, deep down, that it wasn't anywhere good.

As the car glided through the night, Lena pressed herself against the window, desperately scanning the streets for any sign of help. But all she saw was darkness—narrow alleys, closed shops, and the occasional flicker of a distant streetlight. Fear twisted in her stomach as she turned away from the window, her heart racing in her chest.

That's when she noticed him.
