Chapter 1 - The Dungeon’s Prize

The dungeon shook with the roar of the monster. Dust fell from the cracked stone ceiling, and the ground trembled beneath its massive claws. Jagged scales scraped against the walls, and molten-gold eyes glared at the intruders.

Roman Othaleon II grinned. "Oh come on," he said, leaping back from a sweeping claw. "You're supposed to be the boss? I've seen kittens hit harder."

"Roman!" Ethan shouted, frustration cracking his voice. "Focus!"

Roman laughed. "I am focused. Just… artistically."

Kieran groaned. "Why do I always agree to these jobs with you?"

Elizabeth rolled her eyes, gripping her blade. "Because somehow he keeps us alive."

Roman pressed a hand dramatically to his chest. "You wound me."

The monster lunged again. Roman spun through the air, dodging with effortless grace. A surge of magical energy burst from him, sending a shockwave through the cavern.

Ethan was nearly thrown off his feet. "ROMAN! You idiot! Warn us next time!"

Roman only laughed, already moving to attack again. Steel clashed against claws, magic sparks lit the darkness, and the four hunters moved as one. Minutes of chaotic combat ended with a deafening crash: the monster lay defeated.

Roman raised his arms. "And that," he said with a grin, "is why I remain undefeated."

Elizabeth smacked him on the head. "Your little stunt almost killed us!"

Roman rubbed his head. "Worth it."

Kieran strode toward the pile of treasure. Gold coins. Magic stones. A few enchanted weapons. And then his eyes caught something unusual: a small, faintly glowing stone, carved with symbols that seemed older than the dungeon itself.

"What's that?" Roman asked, stepping closer.

Ethan's eyes widened. "Those markings… they're ancient. Really ancient."

Elizabeth frowned. "I don't like it. It feels… wrong."

The stone pulsed softly in Kieran's hand. "We should leave it," she said quietly.

Roman shrugged. "Where's the fun in that?" He picked it up. The glow seemed to respond to his touch, faintly shimmering, as if alive.

The four friends exchanged uneasy glances. None of them knew what it was, but Roman's curiosity flared brighter than ever.

Later, in a small inn, they celebrated their victory. Ale, laughter, and teasing filled the air.

"Why aren't you more interested in royal duties?" Kieran asked between bites of roasted meat. "You're the second prince. You should care about the kingdom."

Roman waved a hand dismissively. "Rogartham already has a king and a first prince who's more than capable. I'd rather live and breathe adventure than sit in a throne room collecting dust."

Ethan shook his head. "You really are impossible."

They laughed, drank, and eventually fell asleep in a heap, exhaustion overtaking them.

But Roman was still awake. The stone sat on the table beside him, glowing faintly in the candlelight. He packed it into his bag, determined to understand it better.

The next morning, Roman arrived at the castle, greeted by his teacher, Liam. "Roman, you need to start acting more like royalty," Liam chided.

Roman tossed his loot bag onto the floor carelessly. The stone slipped out, rolling slightly. Liam's eyes narrowed. "Where did you find this?"

Roman waved. "Teacher, it's just a stone. Not magic, just… interesting."

Liam bent down to examine it, muttering under his breath. "This… this is no ordinary stone. The symbols… it's the ancient language of the Seven Fallen Gods. Dangerous. You must dispose of it."

Roman froze, eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Please… if anyone can understand this, it's you. I'll do anything, but tell me what it means."

Liam sighed, exasperated. "You never leave me alone… fine. Come back tomorrow, and we'll study it properly."

The next day, Roman called Ethan, Kieran, and Elizabeth to Liam's study. Elizabeth stepped forward, eyes on the glowing stone. "Sensei… what does it mean?"

Liam shook his head slowly. "Even I am not entirely sure. But if my understanding is correct, it reads:"

"Brave and true, do not trust the history you know. Spread your wings. Travel the world. Discover the hidden truths, and your entire world will be turned upside down."

Kieran blinked. "Truth? What truth?"

Roman smiled faintly. "Well… that's for us to find out."
