Chapter 23 - Post Match Recovery

On the night after the match, the Hoffenheim training base had long since quieted down, with only a few scattered lights still on. After Oliver returned to his dormitory, he casually tossed his backpack onto the sofa, took a bottle of mineral water from the refrigerator, and tilted his head back to gulp down a few mouthfuls. His sweat had long dried, but the fatigue in his muscles was still clearly discernible.

He opened his laptop, skillfully brought up the match recording, put on his headphones, and began to review his performance from today. This was a habit he had developed when he was 12 years old, during his youth training at Birmingham; no matter the outcome of the match, no matter how good or bad his own performance, the first thing he always did after a match was to review it.

His coach at the time had told him: "You must review the match within 12 hours after it, because memories within 12 hours are the clearest, and the review effect is best."

He had always kept this sentence in his heart. This was also the reason Oliver was later selected by the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy; he was the only one who persisted with this habit at the time, and the biggest benefit it brought him was an improvement in his football IQ. The image on the screen paused at his astonishing flick-over dribble with his calf.

He slowed down the footage, watched it several times, and furrowed his brow slightly. The move was indeed beautiful, but the risk was also very high; if Veljković on the opposite side had reacted a bit faster at the time, or if the force of his touch with his calf had been slightly off, the ball could have easily flown out of bounds, or even been intercepted for a counter-attack.

He shook his head lightly and wrote in his notebook: "The dribble is highly aesthetic, but its practicality needs optimization; reduce high-risk moves."

Next, he replayed Gnabry's goal. That cross was indeed precise, but he noticed that he could have released the ball earlier; if he had passed a low ball directly into the box at that moment, instead of taking an extra step to draw the defense, Gnabry might have had a better shooting angle. He had felt at the time that the pass wasn't very good, but thankfully his teammate was strong.

He wrote: "Passing timing can be more decisive; reduce unnecessary dribbling."

More than half an hour later, after reviewing all the key moments, he closed his laptop, shut his eyes, and let out a long breath.

"System, check body status."

The system interface within him automatically popped up, and lines of data that only he could see appeared in his field of vision:

[Body Status Assessment]

Overall Fatigue: Moderate

Right Quadriceps: Mild fatigue (Estimated recovery time: 12 hours)

Left Ankle: Mild tightness (Light fatigue)

Stamina Reserve: 67% (Average)

Oliver nodded slightly. Today's match intensity was considerable, and he had played the full game, but his physical condition after the match was better than he had expected. He clicked on the system shop, browsing recovery-related items, and also checked his points balance; he currently had 4126 points, accumulated from training and matches.

The system interface displayed:

[Recovery Training Options]

Basic Customized Recovery Training (800 points/session): For mild fatigue or minor injuries, provides an exclusive basic recovery plan to accelerate muscle repair and prevent potential injuries.

Intermediate Customized Recovery Training (5000 points/session): Applicable for muscle tears or joint inflammation, accelerated body aging, etc., develops an exclusive plan, with recovery speed 50% faster than basic.

Advanced Customized Recovery Training (20000 points/session): Designed specifically for major injuries, such as ligament tears, fractures, Achilles tendon ruptures, etc., develops an exclusive plan that can maximally repair damaged tissue to 98% of its pre-injury state.

Oliver chose the Basic Recovery Training. 800 points was neither too much nor too little, and his current accumulated points were sufficient. After confirming the purchase, the system re-examined his body, and after a moment, a detailed recovery plan immediately appeared in his mind:

Ice pack + light stretching (15 minutes): Focus on relaxing the right quadriceps. Low-intensity underwater jogging (20 minutes): Utilize water buoyancy to reduce joint pressure. Fascia gun deep massage (10 minutes): Target the tight area of the left ankle. Protein supplement + electrolyte drink: Accelerate muscle repair. (Specific grams needed will be prompted later)

This system was truly comprehensive; it not only provided customized plans but even precisely calculated the grams for post-match nutritional supplements.

Oliver looked at the remaining 3000-plus points in the points bar, and he couldn't help but click on the skill he had always dreamed of— "Iron Body" (100,000 points).

Once activated, this skill could permanently prevent sports injuries, practically a "get out of jail free card" for professional players.

But the price was exorbitantly high; at his current rate of point accumulation, he would need to play for at least several more years.

"Sigh, just looking at it is enough; I'll get it one day," he murmured softly, closing the system.

After closing the system, Oliver closed his laptop.

The next day was a post-match rest day, and most of the Hoffenheim players chose to catch up on sleep at home or go out to relax. Oliver woke up at eight o'clock today and then went to the club's recovery training room. The physiotherapist, Maximilian, was tidying up the equipment. Seeing Oliver push the door open, he raised an eyebrow in surprise: "Oliver? Why are you here? Today's a rest day."

"My muscles are a bit tight; I want to do some recovery," Oliver smiled, putting his backpack aside.

Maximilian nodded and handed him a towel: "Do you need me to arrange a regular recovery process for you?"

"No need, I have my own plan," Oliver said, walking towards the ice pack machine, skillfully adjusting the temperature and time, and placing the ice pack on his right leg.

The physiotherapist looked at him with interest: "Who made this recovery plan for you? It looks quite professional."

"My agent helped me find a recovery specialist," Oliver replied without changing his expression, this was the excuse he had prepared long ago.

Maximilian didn't ask further, just shrugged: "Alright, let me know if you need anything."

Over the next two hours, Oliver strictly followed the system's recovery plan. During underwater jogging, he felt the gentle massage of the water flow on his muscles; the vibrations of the fascia gun gradually dissipated the tightness in his left ankle; finally, he drank a high-protein shake according to the system's specified grams, replenishing his lost energy. From this perspective, Oliver was actually quite disciplined; this was another level of self-discipline. By noon, he clearly felt his body lighten; the fatigue in his right leg had almost completely disappeared, and his left ankle was no longer tight. The system's recovery effect was even better than he had expected.

Maximilian walked over and patted his shoulder: "How are you feeling, better?"

"Much better," Oliver moved his right leg, smiling as he spoke.

Maximilian performed another comprehensive re-examination on Oliver. The results were excellent; compared to his usual state, Oliver's physical functions had indeed fully recovered.

"Your recovery plan is indeed good," the physiotherapist nodded.

As Oliver walked out of the training room, the sun was shining brightly. He looked up at the sky and took a deep breath. Self-discipline and the system were his greatest weapons, and today's recovery was just one of the minor preparations he made for the next match.
