Chapter 3 - First Duel

The morning air was cold, sharp, and smelled like wet stone. I couldn't stop shaking. My chest felt tight, my stomach twisted into knots. The spark from yesterday—tiny, flickering, barely more than a glow—was still alive in my hands. It pulsed like it had a heartbeat.

I tried to focus, tried to steady myself. Every step toward the training yard felt heavy, like walking through mud. But I had to go. I had to face him. The bully. The kid who laughed at me, mocked me, made me feel like I was nothing.

When I arrived, he was already there, leaning against the fence like he owned the place. His grin made my blood boil. "Well, well. Look who thinks he's not weak anymore," he sneered. His eyes glinted with cruel amusement. "Ready to embarrass yourself again?"

I swallowed hard. My hands shook. The spark flickered and danced over my fingers. I focused on it. I had to control it, even a little. Weakness is not the end. Weakness is the start, the voice whispered. I took a shaky breath.

"Yeah," I said, my voice trembling. "I… I want to try."

His laughter cut through the yard, sharp and cruel. "Try? You mean fail like yesterday? Fine. I'll make it quick."

I backed up, fear and adrenaline mixing into a hot, raw feeling in my chest. My hands glowed faintly. My spark pulsed in rhythm with my heartbeat.

The bully charged. Fast. My legs felt like lead. My mind screamed to run. But the spark… it pulsed. I clenched my fists. Focused. The flame danced over my palms, tiny but alive.

He swung at me. I barely ducked. Sparks leapt from my hands to the ground, sizzling. Smoke curled in the morning air. His eyes widened. "What the—?"

Panic flooded me. My hands flailed, sparks flying wherever they touched. I didn't know how to control it, but somehow… it worked. He stumbled back, tripping over the dirt.

I froze, chest heaving. My face burned. My heart pounded so loud it felt like everyone could hear it. I… I actually did it.

He scrambled to his feet, furious. "Lucky shot!" he yelled, charging again.

Another spark jumped from my hands, grazing his arm. He yelped, eyes wide with disbelief. "Stop it! You little—"

I bit my lip. Anger surged, raw and hot. Every laugh, every shove, every whisper from yesterday—every humiliation—poured into the spark. My chest ached, my hands glowed, and the flame pulsed stronger. Alive. Powerful.

The bully froze. His face pale, chest heaving, eyes wide. "You… what are you?"

I dropped my hands. Sparks faded. My chest heaved, weak but alive. I had done it. I had survived. I had fought back.

The yard fell silent. Other students stared, whispering. Some shocked, some afraid, some curious. I felt their eyes, heavy and hot. I didn't know if it was fear or awe or jealousy… I didn't care. I felt seen.

The system whispered:

[Level Up Completed: Survival Spark – Level 2]

[Stat Points Available: 5]

I let out a shaky laugh, half relief, half disbelief. My hands tingled. The spark pulsed softly, alive.

The bully glared at me, muttering under his breath, but didn't come closer. Good. I didn't care anymore.

I slumped against the nearest tree, chest heaving, trembling, exhausted, but alive. The spark danced faintly over my hands, soft and warm. I had done something I never thought I could. Something… real.

I thought about tomorrow. About controlling the spark. About training. About showing everyone—my classmates, the teachers, the bully—that I wasn't weak. That I wasn't nothing.

A thrill ran through me, raw, messy, and alive. Anger. Fear. Hope. Excitement. All tangled up, all burning in my chest.

I whispered to myself:

"I'll show them. I'll make them see. I'm not weak anymore."

The rest of the day passed slowly. Every step in the academy felt heavier. Every glance from my classmates weighed on me. But the spark… it was mine. My own little power. Alive. A promise.

I imagined standing in the hallway tomorrow. Sparks dancing across my hands, the bully frozen in fear. Students staring, teachers shocked. My chest tight, my hands trembling, but my heart… full.

The system's soft glow pulsed in my mind:

[Level Up Available: 5 Points]

[Skill Unlocked: Survival Spark]

And for the first time in my life, I felt… ready.

I'm Kai.

The weak kid? Not for long.

Tomorrow… they'll see.

Tomorrow… I'll show them.
