Chapter 12 - Chapter 11: Hunting in a "Brave New World"

"Where the hell did I end up now?" I muttered, scanning the surroundings for any immediate threats. Nothing so far.

[ Quest: Brave New World ]

[ Objective: Survive for 72 hours in this new world to return home. ]

[ Reward: 1,000 XP, return to your original world. ]

[ Failure: Death. ]

Well, a thousand XP sounds great, but that "Death" part really dampens the mood. Is this place that dangerous?

[ Quest: Hunter and Prey ]

[ Objective: Prove you're the hunter, not the game. Defeat ??? in a fair fight. ]

[ Reward: 780 XP, 10 Fantasms, Gacha Ticket, variable rewards. ]

[ Failure: Death. ]

A Gacha ticket? That's a first. But who the hell am I supposed to beat in a "fair fight" for that kind of payoff? This feels suspicious.

[ Quest: Apex Predator ]

[ Objective: To them, you're just food. Prove them wrong and start hunting them instead! ]

[ Reward: 450 XP, 10 Fantasms, Gacha Ticket, variable rewards. ]

[ Failure: Agonizing Death. ]

Oh, come on! "Agonizing death"? I'm starting to hate this place already. Who exactly is looking at me like I'm a snack?

[ Quest: Corporate Secrets ]

[ Objective: Intervene in the conflict between ??? and ???. Assist one side. ]

[ Reward: 600 XP, 10 Fantasms, variable rewards. ]

[ Failure: ??? ]

Great, Corporate wars. It's always the corporations.

There were two more unknown quests, but I didn't have time to worry about them. I checked my suit scanners. No threats detected yet.

Then I noticed something—the Gacha icon was pinging. I opened the tab and saw that the DC and Independence Day banners were locked.

In their place was a new one. An Alien in the top left, a Predator with a spear in the bottom right. Aliens versus Predator.

"I'm in the AvP world! Holy shit!" I looked around again. The trees were wrong. The sky wasn't cloudy—that was just its natural color. I was on another planet.

Everything clicked. The "Hunter" is a Predator. The "Apex Predators" are the Xenomorphs. And the "Corporate War"? It's always Weyland-Yutani.

My only goal now was to survive. Everything else was secondary.

I took off, flying slowly to scout the area. After three and a half hours, I found it—a two-story building.

An abandoned outpost. Or rather, a destroyed one. Bullet holes, claw marks, and acid burns everywhere.

[ Skill: Heavy Armor Proficiency, Power Armor Piloting, and Flight increased to Level 8. ]

I landed near the entrance. I found a rusted pistol on the ground. Its previous owner probably didn't have a good time. I tossed it in the inventory.

Inside, I found a ruined barricade and the remains of a sentry turret. These weren't just scientists; they had heavy security.

I scavenged the first floor: pulse rifles, a shotgun, and some rations.

According to the logs, it's January 5th, 2231. The planet is LV-1201.

The Weyland-Yutani research complex is protected by the "Iron Bears" PMCs. They've been having "issues"—leaked capsules, xenomorph outbreaks, and "invisible" hunters being captured in December.

I set up a temporary camp on the roof. I spent the next day scouting the fauna.

The planet is a nightmare. lizard-gorillas invisible to thermal imaging, and massive insects. Everything here wants to eat you.

I spotted a Xenomorph—the classic eyeless black nightmare with the bladed tail. I didn't engage. Where there's one, there's an entire hive.

As I was heading back to camp that evening, a blue ball of energy slammed into me.

BOOM. A bright blue flash, a massive impact, and everything went spinning. I hit the ground hard.

"What the hell?!" I screamed, trying to get my bearings. A plasma bolt? From where?

I used a Healing Scroll. The world stopped shaking.

I felt eyes on me. I saw a purple flicker and rolled just as another shot exploded where I'd been lying.

"Deactivate thermals! Activate rear camera!" I shouted. Thermals were useless against his tech.

The Predator was still there. I could feel it.

[ Skill: Intuition increased. ]

I couldn't just fly away; he'd shoot me down. I had to face him.

I rushed toward him, used my Ice Make magic, and filled the air with tiny ice crystals—snow.

"Gotcha!"

The snow coated his invisible cloak, outlining his form. I blasted him with a repulsor.

His cloaking failed. He stood up, towering over me, and drew a telescopic spear. He let out a rattling click. We began to circle each other.

He didn't want to use his shoulder cannon in close quarters, and I didn't want that spear through my chest.

I lunged. He dodged and swiped with the spear, sparks flying off my armor.

I grabbed the spear, pulling him toward me. Headbutt. Knee to the gut.

Before he could recover, I grabbed his throat with my armored gauntlet.

"Repulsor to maximum!"

A muffled, rattling scream. The blast tore through his neck. He slumped to the ground, twitching.

[ Quest: Hunter and Prey Completed ]

[ Level Up! ]

I dragged myself to a tree and sat down, leaning against the trunk.

"Holy shit."
