Chapter 3 - Awakened Ability

On the rooftop, the two of them watched the zombies below while scrolling through the latest news online.

Suddenly, Chen Hao looked at his phone and said excitedly,

"Brother Bin, look! Someone uploaded a video of fighting a zombie!"

Yang Bin quickly leaned over.

It was a video posted on Bili. It seemed to have been filmed from a window, and the angle was surprisingly clear.

In the video, a man wearing a security guard uniform was fighting a zombie with a riot baton.

The man was tall and well-built, clearly someone who exercised regularly. Every strike of the baton landed with a dull thud, showing he had considerable strength.

However, the zombie seemed to feel no pain at all.

No matter how hard the man struck it, the creature kept lunging at him like a mad beast.

Fortunately, the guard was agile. Each time he barely dodged the attack before striking back again.

The fight continued for more than two minutes.

Then suddenly—

Two more zombies, attracted by the noise, staggered over from nearby.

The guard noticed them and his expression changed instantly.

Without hesitation, he abandoned the zombie in front of him and turned to run.

But in his panic, he reacted just a bit too slowly.

A zombie grabbed his leg and bit down hard on his ankle.

"AAAH—!"

The man screamed and collapsed to the ground.

Within seconds, the other two zombies surrounded him.

The video ended abruptly there.

Perhaps the person filming had been too terrified to continue recording.

But everyone watching already knew what the man's fate would be.

After watching the video, both of them fell silent.

The outside world was far more dangerous than they had imagined.

After a long moment, Yang Bin finally spoke in a low voice.

"From that video, the zombies seem about as strong as ordinary people."

"But they don't feel pain. They're like cockroaches that refuse to die."

"That's the real problem."

Chen Hao swallowed nervously.

"Brother Bin… are we going to have to fight those things too?"

"What do you think?" Yang Bin said bluntly.

"If we want to survive, we'll have to face them sooner or later."

"If you don't kill them… they'll eat you."

Chen Hao lowered his head.

"But… I'm scared."

Yang Bin sighed.

"To be honest, so am I."

"We're just ordinary people. We've never even killed anyone before."

"How many people do you think would dare kill zombies?"

He paused, then continued seriously.

"But the world has already become like this."

"We don't have a choice."

He patted Chen Hao on the shoulder.

"Our position here is good. We still have time."

"But during this time, we have to overcome our fear."

"Otherwise, when we actually face a zombie…"

"Our fear will get us killed."

Chen Hao's face was pale.

"I understand… I'll try."

Yang Bin nodded.

In truth, he wasn't much braver than Chen Hao.

He was just a normal student too.

But having grown up largely on his own, he had experienced more hardship than most people.

He knew one thing very clearly—

If they couldn't overcome their fear,

death would be waiting for them.

Yang Bin looked down again.

There were no more living people outside now.

Only zombies wandering aimlessly.

Anyone who had survived must already be hiding.

No one dared come out.

Yang Bin frowned.

With things like this, there was no way to leave the dormitory building.

But food in the dorms was limited.

If they couldn't leave eventually,

they would starve to death.

We need to find a way out of this situation, Yang Bin thought.

Just then, he glanced toward the girls' dormitory across the campus.

Suddenly—

He noticed movement.

It looked like people fighting.

Because the two buildings were quite far apart, he couldn't see clearly.

But it seemed like someone was battling zombies.

Yang Bin became curious.

Who would be brave enough to fight zombies right now?

He squinted and stared harder.

And then—

Something strange happened.

The scenery around him suddenly blurred.

The distant girls' dormitory began to zoom in, as if someone were adjusting the focus of a telescope.

Closer.

Clearer.

Closer still.

Soon, the scene inside the girls' dormitory became perfectly clear before his eyes.

On the sixth-floor corridor, four tall girls were fighting several zombies.

They were wielding whatever weapons they could find—chairs, clothes-drying poles, even pieces of bed boards.

From their physiques, they looked like sports department students.

Apparently the four of them were from the same dorm room.

And none of them had turned into zombies.

Their luck was incredible.

Even so, Yang Bin couldn't help admiring their courage.

In a situation like this, they still dared to leave their dorm.

Fortunately, compared to most girls, they had a clear physical advantage.

The zombies they faced were all shorter than them.

The corridor was narrow.

They swung their makeshift weapons constantly, trying to force the zombies back.

Judging from their movements, they seemed to be trying to reach another dorm room further down the hall.

Yang Bin shook his head.

Too naive…

Even though they had weapons and strong bodies, fighting like this would only attract more zombies.

Sooner or later they would realize their mistake.

And sure enough—

Before long, zombies from nearby rooms heard the commotion and began stumbling out.

One after another.

Then they rushed toward the girls.

Seeing this, the four girls' faces instantly turned pale.

They immediately retreated into their dorm room and slammed the door shut, locking it.

A group of zombies rushed to the door and began pounding on it wildly.

The door shook violently with every impact.

If the girls hadn't barricaded it from the inside,

it probably wouldn't last long.

Yang Bin finally withdrew his gaze.

Suddenly, his head felt dizzy.

His body swayed, and he nearly collapsed.

Fortunately, Chen Hao caught him in time.

"Brother Bin! What's wrong?"

Yang Bin shook his head and pointed toward the girls' dormitory.

"Haozi… can you see what's happening over there?"

Chen Hao looked at him like he was crazy.

"Are you kidding? It's way too far."

Yang Bin nodded thoughtfully.

Confusion filled his mind.

I'm slightly nearsighted…

My eyesight isn't even that good.

So how could I see something that far away so clearly?

That's not normal vision anymore…

Then suddenly—

A thought flashed in his mind.

Could this be… a special ability?

Yang Bin's eyes lit up.

"But why didn't I notice it before?"

"Did it appear last night?"

"Maybe the apocalypse doesn't only turn people into zombies…"

"Maybe it can also give people special abilities."

His eyes sparkled with excitement.

After all, they were people of the 21st century.

Who hadn't seen movies about superpowers?

With zombies already appearing in reality, having supernatural abilities didn't seem impossible anymore.

To confirm his guess, Yang Bin focused his gaze on Chen Hao.

Chen Hao suddenly felt extremely uncomfortable.

Being stared at like that gave him the strange feeling that he was being completely stripped bare.

Instinctively, he covered his crotch.

For some reason, that made him feel slightly safer.

Yang Bin laughed.

"Relax. It's not like I haven't seen it before."

At that moment, Yang Bin was overjoyed.

Originally he had only wanted to confirm whether he had a special ability.

But he had just discovered something even more shocking.

He could see through things.

X-ray vision.

A power countless men had dreamed about.

And now it had appeared on him.

Even someone as calm as Yang Bin couldn't suppress his excitement.

He continued observing Chen Hao, curious how far this ability could go.

Then suddenly—

Yang Bin's expression froze.

His face filled with utter shock, as if he had just seen something completely unbelievable.
