Guiying had not seen his own feet in nine days.
He knew they were still there. He could feel them, more or less, somewhere at the far end of a landscape that began with a hill the size of a small planet. But every time he looked down, all he saw was his stomach.
"Liuxian."
"Hm?"
"My phone fell."
Liuxian looked up from his report. The phone was lying screen-down on the carpet beside the bed. Guiying was staring at it or at least trying to but the only way he could do it was if he bent his body to the side.
"When?"
"Ten minutes ago."
"Ten minutes? Why didn't you call me?"
"With what?" Guiying said. "The phone is the thing that fell."
Liuxian pressed his lips together. It didn't help. His shoulders gave him away.
"Don't laugh."
"I'm not laughing—Pftt."
"You're laughing, I can literally see you in the mirror."
"Ahem." Liuxian put down the report, picked up the phone, wiped it on his sleeve and handed it over. "Anything else?"
"Socks."
"You want me to…"
