Chapter 25 - Capricorn: from Vanilla’s POV

I slowly took in the appearance of the girl in front of me. She looked sweet. Too sweet. This nasty world hadn't got to her yet. Good.

Her dress had some cuts here and there, but the skin underneath seemed to have already healed, as if The Gods had seen how innocent she was and thought that wounds didn't look good on her.

Blond, and fluffy curls cascaded over her shoulders and back, making her very self glow like an angel. The white dress floated around her like a little cloud, and I almost find myself thanking Berlin for it not to have, dots.

Because dots died in me just like the innocence there used to be.

I could feel my blood boiling at the thought of somebody so innocent in this world. Somebody so untouched by this hard cruelty. Somebody who—

Who reminded me of my younger self.

And I think I threw in my mouth a little…

I could feel shudder run down my spine just at the thought of it, and I knew I had to keep her away from Capricorn.

I poked my head into the alley and noticed Adam dodging effortlessly some robot's lasers. Typical Sara behavior.

With a fleek of my wrist, I made a floating blue screen appear in front of me and started scrolling through it. I needed to give myself more speed and strength for my plan, stopping time would be good too…

''So, Vanillaaa…''

My eyes land on the little girl yet again at the sound of her voice.

''Will you help us find my older brother and Coco?''

Ah, so she's innocent and weak. What a waste…

I clear my throat and make the blue screen disappear after finalizing the last details.

''Where is Coco?

-Oh, according to Silver he should be in the circus—

-So, he should be safe and sound. What about your older brother?

-We don't know where he—

-Then we should find Blue Berry's crystal ball.'' I scoff.

I am such a liar…

In theory, we could just teleport or use some kind of spell to teleport and find both her brother and Coco, the problem at hand isn't just where they are, but…

Using our powers on this planet is risky.

Pottam is a mysterious planet filled with dangerous villains.

Making our presence known would lead up to catastrophic circumstances.

And I'm afraid that we won't be able to stop Capricorn from causing a real massacre.

As much as I hate admitting it… it's impressive how that girl is still so powerful even though she has an important weakness— she cannot use the same power or spell as her opponent. And yet she always manages to win every fight. In theory, she could be able to use all powers, but her weakness stops her from it.

That's partly why she's pushing away her fight with The King. Knowing her, she's thinking about all possible strategies, trying to learn new spells even though she knows most of them.

My hand clenches into a fist beside me, and I could feel my eye twitched as I gazed at nothing.

No matter how immature she is, she still knows how to use her brain… she would've never tricked me that day if I hadn't let my guard down…

I huff out a shaky laugh and take off the delicate black ribbon in my hair, causing my loose bun to unfold into delicate, brown waves.

I drape off my squared black and white tailcoat onto the ground and crouch down to tie the ribbon around its waist.

The blond kneels down in front of me and slowly tilts her head to the side.

''What are you doing?'' I almost cringe at how soft her voice is and lightly push my hat into her face.

''You'll understand when you'll be older.'' I would almost feel bad at my cruelty, but we have more important things at hand.

My eyes snap at a wooden table nearby next to a pile of trash bags on the sidewalk.

Perfect.

I already knew what to with it as I kicked it in the middle with the back of my leg to snap it in two.

I tied each corner of my coat to the table's legs and smiled at my handiwork.

Back at the alley's mouth, I placed a small, and round mechanism on the table to turn both y coat and the table invisible.

Just then, Adam came gliding through the alley to us, faceplanted in the ground.

A laugh threatens to escape me, but I hold it in and clear my throat instead.

''Wouldn't you like using your 'impressive' powers to us?'' My voice may be filled with sarcasm, but it isn't entirely false.

One of the most chilling things about Death itself is how silent it is. It creeps onto people silently, knowing it's the end only when it's near…

It's an unshakable thing with an immense control.

And it chooses its victim often in the cruelest ways possible. I know something about it.

But what fascinates me about Adam, or his ancestors, is that they use way less magic than all of us.

If a spell strong enough to beat someone twice your strength in compact exists, it will most likely make a normal magical being weak for months, even me.

While Adam and his ancestors would feel dizzy for a few hours or have a small headache.

''What's the magic wordddd~?'' He purposely draws out the word like a master treating its pet. Do I look like a dog?

Unsurprisingly, Adam stands up with the dignity of a man who hadn't just embarrassed himself and runs a hand through his hair.

I physically resist the urge to roll my eyes or even throwing a fist straight at his jaw but restrain myself when I remember my plan.

''All I need from you is to distract your 'dear' cousin while giving the table and my coat more weight and resistance.''

He raises an eyebrow and looks around.

''What table? Speaking of that, where's your coat—?'' he cuts himself off when he notices my short hair loosely resting on my shoulders.

I take a single step back when I understand that.

I mean, I haven't let my hair down in public since…

Since him.

And here I am, falling back into the five stages of grief…

Or should I say 'four'?

Because acceptance sure as heck never happened…
