Chapter 11 - Fun Day

"Wait, you're a mechanic, and Ai said you've been building something in your garage for a long time. What kind of 'toy' are we talking about exactly?"

John paused mid-stroke, thinking about it, then set his pencil down.

"...It's not really a toy."

"But Onii-chan said it's a big toy!" Ai corrected.

"I said you could play with it later when I'm with you—because I know how it functions."

Kaina's curiosity grew. There was clearly more to John than just being a mechanic.

"So what is it?"

John hesitated, then sighed.

"It's a mech suit I built from scrap metal and spare parts. also some PCs i bought as the main control system instead of wasting more time and money building one from scratch."

Kaina stared at him for a moment, processing what he'd just told her.

It wasn't that she thought John was doing something bad—she just wondered why he'd build a mech suit of all things.

"Why?"

John leaned back in his chair and rested his chin on his hand.

"Are you familiar with how much it costs to rebuild after the damage caused by people?"

The way John said "people" didn't just point to villains. It also pointed to heroes.

It sounded hypocritical, but it held truth there was no such thing as heroes keeping damage control perfectly in check while taking down villains.

"Are you saying heroes are also responsible?"

Kaina leaned forward, wondering if John viewed heroes like her as villains too.

"You think heroes are just as responsible for causing damage as villains?"

John shook his head. "I'm not saying I hate heroes. I'm giving you my honest truth. Not all heroes can negate damage against villains, and villains are stubborn to take down causing more destruction from both sides."

He continued. "Small businesses and people living in apartments can go bankrupt without construction to fix their spaces. And it costs a lot of money to hire staff and machinery maintenance.

But with a mech i create and some help, there's a chance of fewer people being homeless and fewer small businesses struggling to make ends meet."

John wasn't wrong. He compared Marvel's Civil War: Frontlines comics and real life to the MHA world. including what he'd seen in this reality over the past year.

This era was vastly different from how My Hero Academia current time showed things. John had seen some pro heroes not properly doing their jobs. That led to reckless and corrupt heroes getting assassinated by Lady Nagant, while civilians faced struggles and tragedy in their lives.

Despite that, he sometimes gave people discounts or free repairs, secretly using his Horse Talisman power to fix their vehicles to help even though it's not helping alot.

That's where his plan came in: using his mech, along with the Uraraka couple's support, to help civilians fix their property without requiring huge costs or expensive maintenance machinery.

The mech is powered by his long-lasting energy source John had worked hard on which is better than standard generators.

Kaina stayed silent after listening to John's facts about how mechs could help people who couldn't get a license to use their Quirks.

She couldn't deny it. Many faced the struggle John described—not everyone could get a non-hero license.

Kaina looked at Ai, still oblivious to what they were talking about, and Rover, just being himself.

She wondered why a man so many people cared about and liked a man who worked at a repair shop while looking after his little sister and dog by himself would think that far ahead. His goal was like how people wanted to be heroes, wanting to help many people. Except he didn't have a Quirk. Only hard work and intelligence.

Kaina started to think if John had a Quirk, he would have been a good pro hero with that mindset and plan.

Maybe better than her since John didn't look like the type to hide a secret people would really hate.

Her thoughts were interrupted when three waitresses arrived with their meals. One carried Ai's, John's, and Kaina's orders, while the other two carried Rover's.

Ai and Rover looked excited as the food was placed on the table. Ai's was normal but Rover's was a hill of food.

"Let's enjoy our breakfast. After that, we can go to the amusement park and enjoy ourselves."

They started digging into their meals, avoiding the bits of food flying everywhere from how Rover ate.

John watched Ai happily chatting with Kaina while eating. He couldn't help but think about whether explaining his mech and his goals to Kaina had been a good idea.

'Did I make the right decision telling her?'

He thought about it for a moment, then shrugged and continued his meal.

'Nah. Maybe I'm being too cautious.'

.....

They all finished their meals. John paid the tab—it was huge, but he didn't care. He had plenty.

When the four of them walked out, Ai held Kaina's fingers. Kaina accepted it.

They arrived at the amusement park and had the time of their lives. They went around buying things that looked interesting, bought food that Rover drooled over, and played games to win prizes.

John had experience with most of the games that were familiar to him and cheated a little using the Rooster Talisman to secretly move things telekinetically.

He won many prizes for Ai, including one for Kaina, who had her eyes on the cute stuffed animals.

"Here."

He handed her a cat stuffed animal.

"No, you won it not me.."

"Come on i Ai has alot of things."

Kaina hesitated, but after seeing Ai's happy face, she finally accepted the stuffed animal. It wasn't that she didn't want to hurt Ai's feelings it was because she always liked cute things and wanted to keep one.

"Thank you."

John wanted to move to a different area quickly. He could feel people looking at them, and he didn't want fans recognizing Kaina as Lady Nagant and ruining their day for damn autographs.

"Onii-chan, look."

Ai pointed at the photo booth and climbed inside with Rover before John could answer. Kaina glanced at John, then did the same, deciding to join in. She sat on a chair as the photo booth started.

The first photo was chaotic Rover licking the camera. The second showed John trying to sit him down while Ai sat on Kaina's lap. The third was semi-normal, with John cleaning dog drool from his hands while both girls laughed. The last photo was normal all four of them smiling at the camera together.

This went on for hours until the sun set and everyone started leaving the amusement park.

John carried a sleeping Ai, exhausted from all the fun, while Rover pulled a cart John had bought to carry their stuff.

They stopped by a tall building where Kaina was staying.

"This was actually a fun day," she said, looking at them with a smile. "Hanging out with you."

"I enjoyed it too. I've never been to an amusement park with someone Ai likes."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a picture of them together, handing it to Kaina.

"I can't. You should keep it."

She tried to refuse but John insisted.

"It's alright. Ai wouldn't mind you having it. She'd want you to have a memory of our time together. Maybe another day we can go out again."

John could see she was thinking hard over something as simple as a photo, but she eventually agreed and took the picture.

They said their goodbyes. Kaina entered the building to go up to her apartment while John left with Ai and Rover, heading home.

When Kaina entered her apartment, she set the photo on the table and looked at the glass walls. She had always lived alone in this big apartment and never have the feeling alone.

But after hanging out with two people and their dog, enjoying things she'd never done before have this ache in her heart of being already missing them.

"What is this feeling?"

She muttered. No one was there to hear.
