Chapter 9 - Fire in the Dark

The night air over Beacon Hills had turned cold.

Aiden Blackwell stood on the roof of a tall building near the edge of town.

The wind pushed against his jacket as he looked toward the distant forest.

From here, he could see most of Beacon Hills.

The glowing school lights of Beacon Hills High School.

The quiet residential neighborhoods.

And beyond it all…

The dark forest of the preserve.

Aiden's eyes slowly ignited with faint orange fire.

The Hellhound bloodline inside him reacted to something.

Somewhere in the town…

Violence was about to happen.

"System," Aiden murmured.

A blue interface appeared instantly.

Aiden studied the screen quietly.

His power had increased steadily since arriving in this world.

But compared to some supernatural creatures…

He still had room to grow.

Then suddenly—

DING.

A new notification appeared.

[Emergency Mission Detected]

Objective: Investigate a supernatural attack in Beacon Hills.

Warning: Target may be the Alpha Werewolf.

• 500 System Points

• Random Ability Fragment

Aiden smirked slightly.

"Looks like the hunt continues."

Without another word, he jumped from the rooftop.

His body landed silently on the pavement below.

Then he ran.

Fast.

Faster than any normal human could possibly move.

Within seconds, he disappeared into the darkness.

Meanwhile, on the outskirts of town—

A young man ran through a narrow alley.

His breathing was heavy.

His eyes were filled with fear.

Behind him, something growled.

Low.

Deep.

Predatory.

The man stumbled over a trash can and fell hard onto the pavement.

Before he could stand—

A shadow dropped down in front of him.

Two glowing red eyes appeared in the darkness.

The Alpha werewolf.

Peter Hale.

Peter tilted his head slightly, studying his terrified victim.

"You really shouldn't run," Peter said softly.

His voice sounded almost calm.

But his glowing eyes told a different story.

The man tried to crawl backward.

"Please… don't—"

Peter moved instantly.

His claws pinned the man to the ground.

The scream that followed echoed briefly through the empty street before disappearing into the night.

Moments later—

Aiden arrived.

His Hellhound senses immediately detected the scent of blood.

He slowed down, walking carefully into the alley.

The air smelled of death.

A body lay on the ground.

The victim was already gone.

Aiden crouched beside the body.

The wounds were deep.

Claw marks.

Classic werewolf attack.

But what interested Aiden wasn't the victim.

It was the energy lingering in the air.

Aiden closed his eyes for a moment.

Then he smiled slightly.

"Still nearby."

Peter hadn't gone far.

The Alpha was watching.

Testing.

Waiting.

Suddenly—

A voice echoed from above.

"You're very good at finding trouble."

Aiden looked up.

Standing on a fire escape ladder was Peter Hale.

His glowing red eyes looked down at Aiden with amusement.

"You again," Peter said casually.

Aiden stood up slowly.

"I was thinking the same thing."

Peter jumped down gracefully, landing a few meters away.

For a moment, the two predators simply stared at each other.

The air felt heavy with power.

Peter circled slowly.

"I've met many supernatural creatures," he said.

"But a Hellhound walking freely in Beacon Hills…"

He smiled.

"That's new."

Aiden crossed his arms.

"You talk too much."

Peter laughed quietly.

"And you're very confident."

His eyes glowed brighter.

"Do you know what usually happens to confident creatures in my territory?"

Aiden's eyes ignited with hellfire.

"They get burned."

The temperature in the alley suddenly rose.

The air shimmered with heat.

Peter stopped walking.

For the first time, his expression became serious.

Hellfire was not something even an Alpha wanted to take lightly.

Still…

Peter wasn't afraid.

"Relax," he said calmly.

"I'm not here to fight tonight."

Aiden didn't lower his guard.

"Then why are you here?"

Peter smiled again.

"Curiosity."

His gaze sharpened.

"You're powerful. Stronger than most creatures I've seen."

He paused for a moment before continuing.

"But even Hellhounds have limits."

Aiden stepped closer.

"And even Alphas can die."

For a brief moment—

The tension between them exploded.

Two apex predators standing face to face.

Neither backing down.

Neither willing to show weakness.

Finally, Peter chuckled softly.

"I like you."

He turned toward the darkness at the end of the alley.

"Let's not ruin the fun too early."

Then he stopped briefly and glanced back at Aiden.

"This town is changing."

His voice became quieter.

"New predators… new chaos."

Peter's red eyes gleamed.

"I'm looking forward to seeing what role you play in it."

Then he disappeared into the shadows.

Aiden stood silently in the alley.

The heat around him slowly faded.

His eyes returned to normal.

"Strange wolf," he muttered.

Peter Hale was dangerous.

But he was also smart.

Which meant this game would become more complicated.

Then the system activated again.

DING.

[Mission Completed]

• 500 System Points

Aiden glanced toward the dark sky above Beacon Hills.

The supernatural world of this town was beginning to awaken.
